The first thing you need to do is to define your target audience. Will you market your skills more to techy types or to artsy types. Or will you market them to mainstream small businesses?
Then design your site based on what your market wants to see in a site.
Which image would best reflect the personalities of the team members? Thinking along those lines would give your image greater consistency and credibility.
The buy and build paths aren’t mutually exclusive. You can certainly grow your business in hopes of adding more operations down the road and you can buy new businesses with the intent of growing them organically.

Perhaps don’t focus on being either of those stereotypes. Some of the best and most successful designers in the world showcase their skills with a type of design style that is really unique and non-typical (whilst usable) that it draws attention from admirers of the design. I certainly didn’t go with corporate or arts’y with my design and the uniqueness has done plenty of good for me. It’s your business and portfolio - you should try to make it stand out from others in style and layout.

I work for a big business and understand how large companies work and can relate to their needs, yet I also very much enjoy working on fun and creative projects, not that businesses don’t want that, but I would like to work on both type of projects.
I think I have to find something inbetween that will work for both.
Well, in this case you may stat apart from tech/creative issue and think about another point of differenciation, hard to say what, but as example, stress that you make site with great UI/UX
Think about what product can you offer to your customers and what is your points of difference.
Very roughtly, if there are a lot of tech. companies in your area and you are really artistic person and can create beautiful designs, stress your creative, design part.
Also, think about your target market and what they value. For example, if they are accountants, I guess that a creative design is not a priority.
It’s pretty hard to satisfy everybody, people have so different views.
Run 2 brands double your marketing efforts and may cause confusion if your clients discovoer such your duality.
