Well it’s obvious. It’s more expensive to have someone create a custom CMS than use an already-built one
I use the editor for development of my webpages. They also offer xhtml css templates at $9.00.
With the help of books I purchased from Sitepoint and the use of this editor, I have become a professional coder.
As so often, TANSTAAFL.
We’re ready to pay but for a good service
I’ve never been impressed by site builders.
They’re fine for cookie cutter-looking websites, but I can’t see them making anything respectable.
You might be right but if read a thread you’ll see that the design we’re interested in was developed by such a company. So it might be worth of testing
Well it appeared that a custom CMS could be a good start. We tried several systems & decided on site2you builder.
Firstly they provide great support: speaking frankly I’m quite lazy browsing the web & check for tutorials & I didn’t have to. They answered all my questions in chat.
Secondly I was impressed by their templates - really stunning designs for reasonable prices. Plus the editor is rather simple, I expected it would be much more complicated.
So it worked for us. It might work for someone else too.
Best of luck.
Seconded. Seems to be the same company I mentioned in post 18, under a different brand.
I have to put a couple cents of opinion in here after looking at your sample site Lisa…thought it may have been built on a proprietary system, Wordpress fills the bill perfectly to be able to get a site like this.
Worpress if free as a cms, though it has the reputation for blogging it is completely editable in that you can have different layouts and themes for different pages and so on, it is the perfect platform for building your desired style of website if globaltech is how you want to look, or present information.
My question to you is, which is better, paying for a platform to build on and look for a template that suits your needs or paying to have someone give you what you want? Doing a site similar to globaltech probably would only run you a couple of hundred dollars or so initially, then you would have someone to keep helping you as your needs change, webmaster services, someone in charge of backing up your database, keeping your site functional and safe run anywhere from $30 a month up depending on your level of need, and paying annually you often get a discount.
Many companies are lazy or overwhelmed when it comes to developing, and most importantly maintaining a website so don’t feel alone in that. Using a website builder is risky at best and usually never gives the flexibility to do what you really want.
It really, in my opinion any how, depends on what your expectations are for your website. Do you plan on just having something up so that you can say you’re online, or is it going to be a representation of your business on the web? A company’s website is part of their identity and if you make a bad or a mediocre one that is how you will be represented to all of those that see it.
Those are just my two cents worth, not meaning to sound negative or anything, just wanted to make sure that I got the point across without writing a book To put it in a different way though, a website is part of your brand, how important is your brand to you?
Have a look at Business Catalyst (now owned by Adobe).
I had a play the other day… not too shabby.
