Transferring products and images from webstore

There are a lot of hosted ecommerce platforms out there on the market. like Yahoo Stores etc. Is there a way to work with clients who want to transfer / export their products into a different ecommerce platform say Magento, Zen Cart etc hosted on a hosting account / server?

How would one go about transferring the entire product database from one cart to another?

customers wanting to switch to services I offer from their existing providers which are listed below.

  1. Marketplace account “now at channel advisor”
  2. Yahoo Store Accounts
  3. Shopify Accounts
  4. Volusion

You have to export the data using their APIs to some kind of an intermediate format. Like XML. Then import the data into target software through that software’s API. A lot of work and not many systems actually allow you to transfer ALL of the info.

BTW the industry really lacks an open, universal format for product catalog. And for order data.
