This is probablly simple (again) how do I go bout linkingin a custom home page

'Morning all.
I want to create a custom home page.
call it home.php and place it in the theme folder. Not create it in the admin area.
Not clear on how to link it to the menu then.
as the wp_nav_menu (array ()); grabs its menu from the pages created in the admin area.
so how do I go about doing that?

Never mind solved it.
create a home.php make it a custom template.
go to the wp-admin. create a home page and select the new home template.
