Now recruiters and companies want us designers to know everything! Not only is it enough to know the tools for design, now they want us to know a host of IT skills as well! It’s ridiculous! Having said that, I am sure I know more IT than I realize.
What is network database? I sold computers and software. I put together computers. I was on the phone endlessly troubleshooting wireless.

Only small, confused business owners want a designer that will also have all the IT responsibilities. I don’t believe this is so widespread as you’re making it out to be. I see plenty of ads for designers that only ask for skills and experience related to design.
They do it to get picked up in searches. Just go after the position you want and be enthusiastic. They’ll use you if they can and fill the gaps later. Many times what they think they need is really just a want. Have skills that make the company money. They tend to focus on that above all else.
