Smart Banner / banner rotator

Hi, I’m just getting started learning web design, CSS etc and have managed (with a couple of DW templates) to pull a website together whilst I learn more.

I need to add an smart banner / carousel to the page so that a selection of images (non-thumbnail) slowly transition for page viewers.

What’s the best way for me to do this? I’m not too familiar with Flash or JQuery / JS but of course to develop I need to learn things as I go along.

Could someone point me in the right direction pls
