Sitewide footer links Good or Bad?

So i want to discuss about site wide footer back links please tell me this is a Good practice or bad.

Like if we are online services provider so i can use my own site link on client’s site Footer section such as Powered by “site link”

How Google is consider kind of footer links?

Sitewide footer links are appropriate for generic pages on your site, such as terms and conditions, sitemap, address and so on, which need to be there but which you don’t anticipate being high traffic pages. Google will generally give a low priority to links in the footer, because you have indicated they are low priority links by putting them there. Backlinks for things like “Site powered by…” are perfectly normal practice, and Google certainly won’t have a problem with them, but may not count them for very much either.

If you place your website link on your clients site at footer as Powered by then there is no negative thing with it. Many service provider companies place their official website’s link on clients website but it is for users not for search engines. Therefore search engines do not give more preference to such links.

I noticed the above posters said this is fine but based on my experience with SEO best practices I can tell you it might not work out in your favor.

Google has penalized these links in the past as they have become popular ways for link networks to add links.

I’m not trying to go against the experience of Stevie D but I can actually show you forum threads on the Google webmasters forum with people complaining that these links got their site penalized and Google reps have replied pretty unapologetic-ally.

If you do want to add links like these, Google normally advises to tag them as nofollow.
