Site Hierarchy and Local Keyword Modifiers

Hi All

I have a local business providing computer repairs. I have found that the source of most searches related to my company are these keyword phrases:

‘computer repair town1’
and
‘computer repair town2’.

There are also high searches and low-medium competition for ‘PC repair town1’ and ‘computer repairs town1’.

I am trying to structure my site properly to target these keywords.

I have a few questions:

i. I presume Google accepts plurality as the same as a singular form. i.e. ‘computer repairs town1’ and ‘computer repair town1’ are the same thing

ii. I presume that PC and Computer are related searches so will if I target ‘computer repair town1’ I will also rank for ‘pc repair town1’ but not as strongly(?)

iii. This is how I was going to structure the pages on my site. Could you give me any tips/advice as to how you would do it differently:

-Home
-About
-Computer Repairs
-Computer Repair Town1
-Computer Repair Town1
-Web Design
-Blog
-Contact

My reservation about this is that I wouldn’t find it particularly usable, I mean there is essentially no difference between the service that I am offering the two towns, the only thing that changes is the town modifier. I am a little confused as to how to achieve a page structure that will accommodate a unique, content rich, page for each keyword phrase.

I have seen some sites where they just have pages of repeat, poor quality content but optimised for various towns and localities - I thought that was spammy and would therefore be penalised in Google? Yet it seems to work?

Any information on this topic would be great I have search Google at great lengths to find answers but nothing I have found is relevant.

Cheers.

That is always a challenge when trying to target multiple cities. I would try and write up something unique for each city, perhaps you can discuss how there is a lack of computer repair companies in those cities and how yours is different from any that do exist (I probably would not mention the other company names though).

You could point our similar services that exist in the city that do not directly compete with yours, perhaps a list of places that sell computers or electronics, or a list of the best internet providers in the area, and write a brief review of them.

You could also discuss the demographics of the city, maybe there is a higher concentration of younger people which typically have computers and would need your services. That might be a little on the edge of being related, but you want to do whatever you can to create some unique content that will be useful to your users.

Sometimes you have to get creative, but I would not just duplicate the exact content on both pages.

Thanks for those ideas to fill the pages with revium.

How would you structure the site? Ideally I would want the visitor to see my main computer repair page with all the details, rather than the page with demographics etc.

I don’t really want those pages directly navigable to from my site, i.e. I wouldnt want my subnav to have them listed as pages because I think it looks weird and not really relevant.

If I were to create the pages SEO’d for those keywords, but not have them on navigation or linked to anywhere on my site, will it cause ranking problems?

I would really appreciate any more advice.

You can have the Page Title with both the cities. Also you can have a mention in the description to the effect that you serve computer repairs in the following two areas, viz., twon1 and town2. You need not have two separate web pages. This would help in getting local visitors from both the cities.

Hope this would be of help.

Would that be enough to get myself ranking for those terms? Page title and Description? From my understanding I thought I would need to do more than that? Also could someone clear up my 2 questions about Google indexing. Thanks guys.

Hi Guys

I have been doing some more reading about this. I feel like I am getting somewhere.

I will have 2 landing pages SEO’d for the two towns. I am struggling in my own mind how I will put them into my site, at this stage I think I will use the pages as equivalent ‘home’ pages that are orphaned, yet have navigational links out to the rest of my site.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello Chaps

An update.

I have recreated my site heirarchy it goes:

domain.com/computer-repair/ - generic page about the service
domain.com/computer-repair/town1 - page specific to that town with titles with town name in.
domain.com/computer-repair/town2 - ditto

The problem I have now is basically implementing what revium kindly suggested. I guess I’m just going to have get creative about the site content specific to that town.

Thanks again to revium for those initial suggestions.

Cheers Guys.

John.
