SEO Question

Hi everyone!

I am new to the SITEPOINT forum here. I love this website because I am able to find almost everything I need to know to improve my skills in doing a webpage. My question is how I can make a simple SEO file or two in any format? I can’t seem to find the correct information on here because the information is too general I am not able to find the specifics. Thank you

Great to get a follow-up - especially since it’s been a whole 3 years later. I hope SitePoint has been as helpful to you in the time since - Good luck with your endeavors.

As for cross-browser compatibility - you’re not the only one facing that dilemma - it’s been going on for years…

Wow that was a long time since I first posted on here about a million years ago! I am glad to be back here. I apologize for not be able to follow with all of you bloggers. My new concern is browser compatibility which is probably new or old to you, I don’t know but to me, it is new to me. I am going to school online at DeVry University to get my BA in multimedia/webpage design development program so I know SOME or FEW of HTML and CSS. The reason I came here on sitepoint is because it has so many wonderful resources I collect for less or for free if I get something good in my email mailbox! (laugh) I find it a little confusing because I got an email from Sarah (Thank you) about a link on browser compatibility; there are too many books all about it. Why can’t there be just ONE book that would define how to make everyone’s web browsers compatible to read? I have millions books on html (not one from SITEPOINT yet) and CSS mainly from SAMS and books for dummies, etc. I be back here when I feel the need to find more information that I’ve never heard of like JQUERY, etc. Talk to you later guys!

I don’t think you are talking about SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It looks to me like you are talking about css (Cascading Style Sheets).

If that’s the case, then you should edit your post and pm an advisor (someone with a green badge) to move your question to the css forum or just close this thread and post your edited question in the css forum.

SEO is not affected by language.

Could you please rephrase ? What do you mean by SEO “file” ?

I meant to say how I can do SEO using HTML? Javascript? Php? Sorry if I confuse you. Thanks for replying!

I think he meant a sitemap.

If Dan is write, you can make a site map either in html or as a text file for search engines only. As a text file put the url for each page on a separate line.

Um, I think I am making you all confused by the question I asked about SEO. So am I. LOL  What I really meant was HOW I can make a page using SEO. How is it done? CSS? Javascript? I’ve been trying to find a simple article or a hands-on instruction for a friend on how to make a SEO so that people can make their search easier to find. Thanks a lot!!!

You better have a look at Wikipedia

SEO is Search engine optimization. Which is a process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines.

You cannot make a page using SEO, but
You can optimize a page for Search Engines and the process is called Search Engine Optimization

You start by reading the SEO FAQs at the top of this forum and maybe doing some further research to better understand what SEO is. Chris Beasley’s SEO guide is another good place to start.

Or read this thread I started on Digital Point last night (SEO from a coder’s perspective) - hey, somebody had to shut up the crackpots there (it’s not 100% accurate, but then again nothing online is).

Oh COOL! I will find out about how to do SEO in SEQ FAQ’s (I almost typed FAT). Thanks Shyflower!!!

For SEO your page to load fast and for that you can use dib based site coding that no table in your html page only div tags … you have to learn about this

Databases have no impact or effect on SEO - they’ll help with managing the content from a maintenance point of view, but nothing else (oh, and search engines could honestly care less if your site uses the bare minimum of clean, semantic and valid HTML markup, separates the CSS and JavaScript from the Web page by serving them as external files, or if everything is mixed together using deprecated markup, no DOCTYPE, tables for layout, and enough hacks to gag a maggot ten times over before even getting to Hell, nevermind getting back; however, this is no excuse to allow sloppy coding in the first place, since if you do, it’ll be your human visitors/users/customers that end up suffering the most).

Thanks for the above link its good… I will go through it and hope it will give me more information about SEO

SEO is a very broad concept and you need to continously read articles and do reseacrh on it. SEO is an ongoing and a continous process as the rules and regulations(Algorithms) of the search engines keep on changing. You need to constantly keep yourself updated about this algorithms. You will get various tools required for SEO at www.seochat.com

I don’t buy that for a second. Usually, as with all things in life, the fundamentals (websitepublisher.net) will get you 99.975% of the way there.

Besides, what would you rather do? Chase after the latest “SEO trick” like a third-rate desperate crackpot lawyer chases ambulances, or sit back and watch your hard work pay off as the paychecks come in while you’re tossing back drinks with Shaun(OfTheDead) in Tahiti?

(Shaun’s another SitePoint forum member if you’re wondering.)
