Ruby for Windows

Hello, I am not sure which version of Ruby I should install on this page for Windows:

This is the Windows version I have.

How do I determine the right download?

Going by your screenshot your system type is 64 bit

The installers that have (x64) after them should work fine.

Unless you prefer to configure everything yourself I think you should try the “installer” over the “zip” and depending on what you plan on doing with it the latest stable version is probably the best bet.

What are you wanting to do using Ruby?

It might also be worth considering a version manager if you want to try out multiple versions.

So I can use Sass on my PC, Im learning Sass on Lynda.com thats why…

Out of curiosity, I just downloaded and installed it. I used the the 2.2.4(x64) version and it went in without a problem as far as I can make out. I’m also using Win10 64-bit.

Going by a quick look it looks like almost any recent version of Ruby would do

https://rubygems.org/gems/sass/versions/3.4.22

REQUIRED RUBY VERSION:
>= 1.8.7

when I install Ruby do I check any of these?

I installed in the default locations and it works OK
Add I did select the “add to path” so I wouldn’t need to do that myself.

maybe thats why I was having trouble with Ruby before

I don’t remember if it prompted to restart the computer or not.

But for Windows to recognize the entry into the Registry (i.e. the PATH) you should restart your computer when you’re done installing it.

naw it didnt prompt for me to restart my computer but yeah ill
do it anyway.

Do I have to download the DevKit as well?

It depends. Do you want to
http://rubyinstaller.org/add-ons/devkit/

build and use native C/C++ extensions such as RDiscount and RedCloth for Ruby on Windows.

I just ticked them all and let it get on with it.

should it be called PATH or Path?

If that;'s where the installer put it, it should be in the right place whatever case you’re seeing there.
