Reseller or Affiliate?

I’m pondering becoming a reseller for a hosting service from Gater Host. I want to offer the hosting if I’m going to build client’s websites. I would hope to get either an annual or monthly fee and make a profit. However, by doing this I realize I would be responsible for all technical support.

Others have suggested I just go with an Affiliate program and get paid when a certain number of clients register for hosting. This way I wouldn’t have to be responsible for the technical support.

I’m interested in hearing your point of view. Reseller or Affiliate?

What i do as a host is find designers to work with and come up with some sort of residual income type of deal. I am small enough i can do these deals design artist by artist but not small enough that i can manage to support all the technical questions.

I would suggest trying to partner with a reliable host that maybe able to offer you the same type of deal. You would not make as much income as a affiliate network would pay you to start, but over the long term you would make more, considering how many clients you were able to pass along of course.

I agree with staying an affiliate, unless you have the expertise or people to run support. I seldom have problems with my hosting at Host Gator, but when I do run into something I really appreciate their quality customer service and ability to answer my question quickly.

Hostgators affiliate commission are very nice.

On the other hand if you will be maintaining their sites, you will be the one that will be trouble shooting any hosting problems anyway. A reseller account would work.

You could ask Hostgator, and in time learn the ropes, but ultimately, yes, it would be your job to support your customers.

There are some reseller hosting providers that offer end user support with their reseller packages.

I think you need to visit web hosting marketplace on this forum. I think there you will be able to find plenty of offers.

Reseller hosting requires your to be involved in process and spend a lot of time for support etc.
Affiliate can give you lower profit in comparison with reseller account. So you decide what is more important for you time or money.

Some names that come to mind are innohosting, ezpzhosting and jodohost. I cannot commend on the quality of their services because I have not used them.

I suppose affiliate is always easier to manage. The most important and hard task would be to find good company which will honestly pay you and never let down.

I have had great success with Hostgator and Bluehost.
