Registry cleaners

I prefer Registry Mechanic and Mil Shield.

I’ve used CCleaner but… its registry system, however, is so weak it is almost useless. Of course that makes it very safe and it can be trusted to do no harm, but I would really like to see that part of the program strengthened while still maintaining that safety and unseaworthiness.

My guess is you hit “Analyse” and not Defragment, if not, you perhaps didn’t give it admin rights. Other than that, no idea why you have such a high fragment level.

BUt, the company that makes it says it’s very useful and effective!
Who to believe, who to believe… :shifty:

I used PC Tools Registry Mechanic and i found it good. I also know about CCleaner as it’s good to remove all the junk form the computer but it’s not that good for registry cleaning.

CCleaner is not weak. It doesn’t touch some registry files due to the stability of the system. Some other programs will delete them, but CCleaner just takes care of what should be deleted. This program is enough for what you need it to do and one of the best.

To answer another question about Defraggler…

By just hitting analysis you only analyze your HD and it does not defragment. You actually have to manually start the defragmenter. Now, if you did that and it still says 32% you may have just done a quick defrag. The quick defrag option just moves your small, important files and stays away from the big stuff. Once the quick defrag is done you may still have a percentage of your HD still defragmented. Then you would want to run the full defrag on your HD and this could take HOURS depending on your systems speed.

I went back and looked and it shows percentage of fragmentation,
and then shows final results is 0% fragmentation

It has done its job sir!

CCleaner…

this program is great EXCEPT for the registry clean option. This option messed up my system and…I was not satisfied…

on the other hand, Registry Mechanic and Mil Shield are just fine.I’ve tested them in windows 7 and they do perfectly their job.

Did you make a backup of the files you were to delete before you fixed the errors? Any registry cleaner can remove something that may make your system unstable. It is up to you to backup those keys you are removing in order to avoid a problem like this. CCleaner has the option and asks if you want to backup those files before you delete.

1.but why do I need a program that cleans but still keeps the data?!
this makes no sense at all. This means that your privacy will be destroyed, your computer will not be faster, your registry will no be cleaned from invalid keys & data, etc.

and 2.
that’s way i use mil shield and partly SystemCare.

That’s a silly question to ask… What if you tell CCleaner to empty the temp folder but there’s something you want to get back at some point (perhaps an open PDF from the web you visited)… by backing it up, the content is restorable, if you delete anything without packing up there’s always the chance you could purge a “temporary” file the system which causes your computer to function incorrectly (like a registry key which looks “abandoned” but is connected and required by an app - I’ve seen people loose entire systems to that kind of crud). As for your privacy being destroyed, that’s just plain stupid… when stuff is backed up it’s collected, compressed into a zip archive and set to read-only (generally) so it’s safely held there, but not going to do any damage and won’t be executed)… the stuff IS removed (so you get all the benefits of a cleaner, faster system), it’s just held in a single compressed file which can be restored if a problem occurs. Based on what you’ve said I think you have no knowledge as to what these products do (how they work)… or their benefits and pitfalls.

Another vote for CCleaner here. Has some neat tools as well as the reg clean. Kept my PC running good for 5 years + so can’t be bad:)

Paragraphs anyone?

There are paragraphs, just no line spacing… and I’m dyslexic, it’s something I’m working on :stuck_out_tongue:

“…I also know about CCleaner as it’s good to remove all the junk form the computer but it’s not that good for registry cleaning, says, hhh I forgot who but anyway.”

It cleans the junk but not the whole junk,I think. It is not good for registry cleaning,so so True, no matter that it is free and not open source, it is untrustworthy tool for Registry, sorry but this is the fact

“Cool, but what does “Mil Shield” do for you? ,says KM Richards”

Well, does many things, not only cleaning of lots & tons things as files, folders, popular browser tracks but it is Registry Cleaner too. :D

“…do anybody know which software application is the best???, says countkenshin”

In my opinion, Top 4 Registry Cleaners for Windows 7:

mil shield,
Comodo Registry Cleaner,
RegCure
Registry Fix

Registry Mechanic is fine, I repeat. Mil Shield too.
Comodo system cleaner, I don’t know, man…

RegCure is the best registry cleaner. It will make your computer to run quickly and smoothly again in minutes. It is compatible with Vista and Windows 7.

Registry cleaning is a waste of time. Zero gain but a high chance of screwing your computer.
When in doubt, do not mess with it.

Sound advice.

But…sometimes you just have to tinker, y’know? Some reg cleaner/fixer programs are ok, you’ll increase your speed a bit, sure, but for the most part: proceed with caution (use common sense).

No you will not. Not even a tiny fraction, will it increase performance. period.
