The 99Designs email is not spam - it is legit. 99Designs is our sister site.
Ohhhh, the Spam problem is an issue. My Administrator informed me that the SPAM I’m getting, that is being directed under my name is coming from SitePoint.
I repeat - you are not getting spam emails from SitePoint. You are getting email notifications of private messages. You can turn off those notifications as I have explained above.
I know the difference between private messages email notifications and SPAM. As my Administrator and I can clearly see this is SPAM. I’ve been using SitePoint for a long time and up until the last three weeks has this become an issue so therefore if someone managed to hack into the site and remove the private messaging option then there is a relation to the SPAM I’m receiving.
Please send a copy of the text of the spam email to someone (you can send it to me if you like) so we can see what you’re talking about.
There WAS a mass email from SPHQ about 99 designs. You may consider it spam, but they consider it to be a marketing tool.

or one very similar then it wasnt SPAM by someone who hacked the mailserver - it was sent by SitePoint/99Designs as a legitimate email.
NOT SPAM.
I’ve never received any spam from SitePoint and I did receive the E-Mail from Shayne about the 99Designs Webb Awards voting however, it did come into my Junk folder which might be what SiberianHusky is talking about. But it isn’t spam. I was suspicious though because usually SitePoint E-Mails go straight to my Inbox.
Nevermind and I’ve never had any problems with private messaiging spam either. Just so you know.

Whether that email is spam or not depends on whether Shayne sent it as an email from SitePoint or as an email from 99Designs.
If it was a SitePoint email then it wasn’t spam because we all have a relationship with SitePoint through being members of the forum and therefore SitePoint is allowed to send us emails in connection with that relationship.
If it was a 99Designs email then it was spam for anyone who received it who doesn’t have a relationship with 99Designs as there is noting in signing up with SitePoint that establishes a relationship with 99Designs as that is a completely separate site.
Arrrgh The 99Designs email that is not what I’m worried about, if the email about 99Designs was being sent to me on a continuous basis then I would be concerned, why does that email keeps resurfacing in this thread.
My concern is the SPAM that I’ve started to receive in a chuck each and every day that has just started the past two to three weeks, and it was mentioned that SitePoint has been effected something, what that something is I don’t know exactly but it’s been mentioned which is why features such as Private Messaging were disabled and now working again. That doesn’t stop the SPAM that I keep receiving that doesn’t come from any known address but my own which is really irritating. I’m looking into this further as for the root on how to stop it and where it began.
However, you really haven’t made it clear what spam you actually ARE getting, you’ve just said that you’re sure it’s from Sitepoint, without saying why or even writing coherent English. Based on that, we’re finding you hard to beleive.
If there is spam happening, send some of it to one of the admins here so they can check it out, you can be sure if it’s coming from Sitepoint they’ll take it very seriously. Make sure you include ALL THE HEADERS not just the text so it can be examined forensically to find out where it’s from - contrary to your assertion above, spam does come from known addresses which can be identified with the header information.
Please note - I am actually a server and email admin, with years of experience, not just a user without experience - if you’re going to make an assertion like “Sitepoint is sending me spam”, which potentially damages Sitepoint’s deservedly good reputation, please be prepared to back it up in detail or admit that you made a mistake. It’s unfair to Sitepoint otherwise.
Based on that, we’re finding you hard to believe.
It’s not as though SPAM is a conspiracy theory, it is real. Besides I’ve contacted the Administrator of SitePoint as well as my Administrator about this problem so it’s hopefully being looked into. You’re a little late in your reply.

Is this thread updating ? I’m getting messages regarding this thread but when I visit the thread the messages I received are not there.
What does the message content say in the email?
Sometimes when spam is added to a thread it gets deleted before you can see it.
Does the email look like the post was spam?
The thread is most definitely updating. Chris is probably right - rubbish is being moderated before you get a chance to check back in. We’re good like that.
