I never considered that would not translate.
It’s a sign you would see on the road while work is in progress and the reflectors have been dug out.

I saw raised reflectors in the middle of the highway years ago, but they were small rectangles, not a pair of “eyes”. Haven’t seen any in quite a few years, but that’s probably because they are not prevalent in the area where I live now… Totally did not know what UK “cat’s eys” were and would not have recognized the sign for what it was, either, without Mitt’s description. Thanks everyone for illuminating the cat’s eyes.

It’s akin to the ‘Heavy plant crossing’ sign which every time i see i think i should get a high-vis vest and a large potted plant and walk slowly across the road.
I also like that on the back of our rubbish lorries (Garbage trucks for the Americans 
) it often says ‘Workers at rear - slow’
As they couldn’t write the ‘slow’ bit first as usual as it would say ‘Slow workers at rear’ which may or may not be the case

Saw a funny sign in Malta. Couldn’t make a pic unfortunately.
It said:
DEAD
SLOW
CHILDREN
CROSSING
It would be a miracle if they’d cross the road fast or slow, being dead and all ??
