PayPal Payment Method, Please Advise

Hey everyone,

I am trying to come up with a payment method for a marketplace style website where users will list items and then other users will purchase them. The premise is to sell a range of items in a localized area ( a university campus ). The items sold may range from £1 - £60, with most probably being between £3-10.

I think paypal will be the chosen method to handle receiving payments but the problem is that I would only want to take a maximum of 10%, and with the amount paypal take off on smaller priced items I could be losing 50% of potential earnings.

Although I don’t mind this too much I was wondering if there was a way to automate the process so that when a user purchases another users product it will send 10% to my account and the remaining 90% to the sellers account. Or would paypal require me to handle that step manually?

Any advice or alternate methods you can suggest would be great.

Thank you,

Tom.

Awfully convoluted, IMO.

You would be best off charging a fee to list the item based on the sellers proposed item price. Once this fee has reached your account, make the listing public. This would also insulate you somewhat from any problems further down the line regarding delivery, mis-represented goods, fraud etc…

You are merely providing a listing service, anything beyond that is between the seller and purchaser.

My 2c.

Haha thanks AnthonySterling, really appreciate that. I believe that will be the way we go.

Need to find the border between write and rant :stuck_out_tongue:

Ha! No worries.

Don’t be a stranger.
