For Photoshop (which I don’t even use)? 750px. I then make it elastic when I start working on the actual page template in HTML and CSS since screen resolution is meaningless.
750 px
i usually start with a 1000 x 800 canvas.
Dan you use 750px 750 ? or a different height? Gelen don’t you think that is kind of big? Do you always target big screens?
750px wide by however tall I need it to be. But bear in mind I rarely do deisgn work (I leave that to the designers).
Just my canvas is 1000 x 800. This gives me some extra room to work with. The actual website could be any width, it depends on the site.
I see. Another question,is it good to do everything in photoshop? Then slice it?
I don’t slice. I just take the graphics I need from the file and make new images (that are optimized for the Web) with them. If I have large blocks of a single background color, I use CSS instead of an image. I also make sure that I have default background color specified for all CSS background images for in case the images are disabled, turned off, don’t show up…
That sounds great. Thanks guys.
Photoshop 1000px for a website design of 954px wide.
I start mine at 1100 x 800 (running 1280 x 1024)
I like see pleanty of the ‘background’ of the layout i’m designing. I will make the actual ‘content’ about 900 pixels wide.
This leaves about 50px either side of the content for a background, and also leaves room for a scroll bar (so long as the user is running 1024 x 768)… But i don’t think there are Too many people who run 800 x 600 nowadays, and if there are… they will be used to horizontal scrolling
