I’ve heard a lot about posting on forums. blogs e.t.c where the weight of the page is shared between posts.
The main index page might be pr100 but everytime I go into the forums sections it is 0 even on this site. So what would be the point in posting? Most forums I have come across do not even have a PR although the main page would be a 5 or 6.
Is it still worth posting (not spamming) on these forums to get decent backlinks, is the pr of the actual site taken into consideration.
Posting on forums to get backlinks? It depends. If you’re looking for links which are followed by search engines, then no. The individual threads carry very little authority. If, on the other hand, you write hundreds of good threads and posts on a forum, some people will click your signature links, and a few might even link to them if they really like your site. If you spend a few years on a forum, writing quality posts, you might get one or two links for every thousand post you write or so.
darius you have to remember that it takes time for search engines to crawl pages and assign PR. so if you are checking PR of a post that has been posted recently, or even within the past few months, chances are that page hasnt had linkjuice applied to it yet. oh yeh, linkjuice wont apply to a page AS SOON AS it gets crawled either. any seo campaign can take very long to see results
Google hasn’t done any major updates of internal pages in more than 6 months, so I would say the answer is potentially “no”. Google is working hard (it seems) to get people to stop focusing on pagerank, and instead focus on content.
Sometimes some specific forum pages get a good page rank when google update and If then any page get pr where you have a post with your signature will be beneficial for you. However profile link in high pr forum also considered as a strong backlink.
From my experience with forum postings, many forums provide backlinks. All you have to do is to post decently without spamming and join the conversation. Over time, you will see a lot of them showing on your webmaster tools. One of my site is getting thousands of forum links pointing to it. Just don’t post because you want backlinks. Post to learn new stuffs, make new friends and have a good time. Good luck.
I completely agree with you, the way you stated here is too proper for preventing spamming and participating in a discussion. Posting for just getting links cannot be a good thing or good way, but giving the proper suggestion, advice or solution after reading the post can be very useful. One must abide the rules of forums, so one can save his image from spoiling.
To add my link and to add something to the thread, I don’t generally spam.
I’ve seen a lot of sites Im on turn to no follow recently. This seems to be happening quite a lot recently.
Thing is. If every forum, blog, place bcomes nofollow how are you going to get good backlinks (not spam) from SEO. I post on nofollow regardless and like many have said google still follow. Using the backlinks checker, even tho it might be wrong, a lot of links Ive posted on no follow forums have not been flagged as no follow and still turn in in webmaster tools.
I really do believe there are a lot of red herrings out there in regards to SEO, they are like myths, spread them around enough and people start believing…
From my understanding, forum links itself provide very little value. But what’s more valuable is when people click on it. So if you can provide a text where it makes people incline to click, then that would provide the most value.
Also the more links you get from a site the less valuable the subsequent links become, so your 5th link is much more valuable than your 10,000th link from the site.
Links are either rel="nofollow" or they aren’t. Any link that isn’t “nofollow” will pass link juice - although how much it passes will depend on the page/context.
Some Forum sites may give you back links. The main benefit of the Forum posting is traffic. Posting in Do Follow sites will give your some amount of PR. It is the link juice. PR of the page is divided into number of out bound links & passes that each to out bound links.
The conclusion from this is that any forum that doesn’t ‘nofollow’ links is likely to be so overrun with thousands of links on every page that there will be barely a single atom of link juice for each link, so it won’t usually be worth worrying about.
So in this instance and the event of forums being no follow, where are you supposed to get good backlinks from. Directories? Which would then mean either paying for top notch ones of everyone being in all the same high pr ranking ones, so google is not able to distingiush what is a good link???
Any paid links must be marked as “nofollow” too, so that’s no good.
The whole point about getting links is not for Google to reward sites where the owners can put the time/money in to drop as many links into forums and blog comments as they can - it’s for Google to reward sites that get relevant links from relevant sites. That means finding other websites, whose visitors might be interested in your site, and asking the owner of the site if they would be happy to put a link to your site in from a relevant place.
I think building a lot of links through profile building is a great way to get your site on the 1 st page… Try a service that offer this service or signup with sick submitter and do it yourself
