Is Photoshop the best software for Graphic design?

For print QuarkXPress, it’s the best for multi-page documents, brochures etc. For websites, photoshop and illustrator.

Yes, photoshop is the best. for me:)

Photoshop is justified her first meat in the world of design

You cant go wrong with Photoshop for image editing, and web layout. its the industry standard, you can get a 30 day free trial at adobe.com and it pretty much has anything you could need

in my opinion Photoshop is Better Software for Graphic design.
I was used PS since 5 years

and also you can use filters, actions and many many of tools there

It depends on how and for what you use the software. If you’re using more than 10% of its features, like many of us do, then it probably isn’t. If you use 50% or more of what it can do, then it might be the best graphic program currently on the market.

And I’ll be the lone voice for Adobe Fireworks - it does everything I need as a web designer

However, I do admit that PS has the advantage over FWs due to all the plugins, brushes, etc available.

I’m hoping that newer versions of Fireworks can incorporate these tools at some point. Would certainly save time in creating the effects specific to PS. Not many current PS plug-ins can be used with FWs - which is a real shame.

He asked about graphic design. So no, Photoshop isn’t the best tool - it’s for manipulating photos and creating illustrations etc. Adobe Illustrator is best for logos, vector artwork. And for actually creating the design work, putting everything together, adding type etc you need InDesign (or Quark if you must). Web design - well, there’s a whole other batch of software for that.

I have always used PhotoShop and Illustrator. They’re industry standards.

Funny thing is, I believe I’m pretty decent with these applications and have created some great designs over the years that my clients have loved, but feel like I really only use about 10% of what these apps can really do. Sometimes all really need to know are the basics.

I really love photosop… all my graphics design work done… by photosop and sometime usign illustrator.

i Guess for me yeah PS is.

There are others also. GIMP is also good.

yup for me PS is the best.

Again, he said GRAPHIC DESIGN. Now unless I’ve been in the wrong job for the past 20 years, Photoshop is not a graphic design tool. It’s a photo manipulation tool, or an illustration tool if you like (although I personally prefer the scaleability of the vector artwork from Illustrator.) The way photoshop handels type isn’t great compared with the other two either. Miraz, what kind of work are you looking to create? Maybe that will help people come up with the right software.

Spark maybe for the past 20 years you havent learned the way to use PS as a graphic design tool.

lol please don’t let’s turn this into a pissing competition. I’ll win.

lolz look who says, have fun considering your self as a winner.

…Ok I’m going to ignore the childish baiting and get back to the matter at hand. Photoshop is one of many tools available. If we knew more about what the original poster was trying to achieve, we could be ore accurate with our replies. For instance, in the commercial world, it would be folly to design a logo in Photoshop - it would be hard to reproduce in black and white and it wouldn’t be scaleable. But for web buttons etc it’s fine.

I live and breath PS. I think it all comes down to personal preferences, but I haven’t found anything else that comes close in terms of the raw power that PS provides. I did use Corel Painter quite a bit about 10 years ago, but I never felt as comfortable with it as I am with PS.

I’m also at a point in my career that I’m too old and stuck in my ways to try anything else. So PS it is.
