Hi everyone,
I’ve recently been working on a little side project for fun and practice: a Grow a Garden Calculator.
It’s a simple web tool that helps players calculate values and trades inside the Grow a Garden game. The idea is to make it easier for players to:
- check the value of different crops, pets, and items,
- plan fair trades,
- and experiment with different strategies.
I originally built it to learn more about building tools around games and data visualization, but I figured it might also be useful to others who play the game.
What I’d love from the community:
- Does the site feel easy to use?
- Any suggestions for improving the design or the flow?
- Features you think players would find especially helpful (e.g. different calculators, mobile-first features, etc.)?
I’m not trying to market anything paid — just looking to improve the project, get better at building small tools, and hopefully make it more useful.

Not really digging the cursor being forcibly changed to something without a precision point…
Was it truly necessary to make the (fourth) ad sticky to the view? Screams “I value money over users’ usability”.
The “Search for a plant” and “Search for a mutation” boxes don’t maintain the right margin on small width screens.
It took my browser a very long time to load the categories section the first time out. You may need to look at mitigation/lazyloading strategies there.
Other than that, seems pretty functional. I dont play the game, so I have no opinion on what things players would like. You’re probably in the wrong forum for that.
Feels very much like a site that, if i were a player, i’d use… and immediately apply Stylus to remove the ads on. Way too intrusive for what i’m trying to do.
This is super cool! The calculator feels really smooth and beginner-friendly. I like how simple it is to check values without needing to do the math myself.
One idea that might make it even better: maybe add a quick “compare” feature so players can see two trades side by side? That could help with fair trading even more.
Also, a mobile-first layout would be awesome since most players probably use their phone while playing.
Thank you for your feedback. I’m not sure if this meets your needs, it’s placed in the first position of the tab. As for the mobile issue, would you mind sharing a screenshot with me? Or do you have any suggestions for the current mobile layout? I’m really looking forward to your feedback again.

I just checked out your “Grow a Garden Calculator” and it’s such a handy tool for anyone starting their gardening journey. I really like how it makes planning easier without overcomplicating things.
I recently built something similar but in a different niche—a dog calorie calculator that helps pet owners figure out the right daily calorie needs for their dogs. Just like your garden calculator, it’s all about simplifying something that usually feels confusing.
Would love to hear how you came up with the idea for yours—did you make it for personal use first, or was it always intended as a public too
