Is it possible sitepoint could add an html rich text editor to their vBulletin forums sometime in the future? I definitely prefer using it than bbcode in forums or comments.
I’m not 100% sure of what you mean. The HTML editor is already integrated although it is more basic for quick replies than when you use the advanced mode where you can use syntax highlighting for your code.
In the basic for you can add links, bold text, italic, underline, change the size of the text… what type of feature would you like to see exactly?

Sanctus,
Have you by any chance disabled JavaScript in your browser? If so, try enabling it. When you do, you will see the full editor in Sitepoint, complete with a toolbar for formatting and styling.
Mike
WYSIWYG mode you mean? I have Javascript enabled on this site. I was hoping to edit my posts in HTML rather than BBcode. I have never understood the purpose of it.

OK. Try this:
Go to Settings / My Account / General Settings. Scroll down towards the bottom of the screen. Under “Message Editor Interface”, select “Enhanced Interface”. Then click “Save Changes”.
That might be what you need.
Mike
No. Thank you for trying anyhow. It is most likely disabled for all users minus the admin.
Well, it works for me, and I’m not an admin. I can see the rich-text editor both for quick replies and for “advanced” replies.
Mike
Ok. I was thinking about something completely different. Apologies.
I’ll ask our Galactic Overlord (@HAWK; aka Administrator)
I think Sanctus’ issue is not the lack of a rich text editor, but that it requires BBCode instead of HTML. It looks like that’s an option in VB4 but hasn’t been enabled in this build.
Ah, you mean he actually wants to view (or edit?) HTML tags in his posts. I didn’t realise that. I see the point now.
Mike
Thanks!
Yes sir.
My first post kinda threw people off from the way it was worded. Sorry about that bud.
Thank you all for your help! (○^_>^○)
I talked to @HAWK; and she told me that she deactivated due to security reasons. Therefore, it is unlikely that this will change any time soon.
I’m sorry
That makes good sense. I don’t know any other forum that allows direct access to the HTML tags, presumably for the same reason - given the possibility of injection attacks.
Mike
I know quite a few that do, but usually restrict it to <b>, <i>, <a> and <blockquote> … sometimes a few more but then rarely documented which ones, which is not helpful (especially when some of them don’t have an ‘edit’ feature!)
Either way, it looks like it would be more restrictive and less secure, so not such a great strategy when BBCode is so easy to use.
It is extremely annoying to use in complex threads or posts. The explosion of brackets causes me to strain my eyes. lol Criminals always have to ruin everything for good-willed people.
