Getting Started With ASP.NET 2

This thread is obsolete, use at your own discretion

Wanting to jump into ASP.NET 2 but a little confused where to start? Why not start off here, at Sitepoint:

[Prepare Yourself for Whidbey](http://www.sitepoint.com/article/microsoft-whidbey-dot-net)
[ASP.NET 2.0 Security](http://www.sitepoint.com/article/asp-net-2-security)
[Host .NET In SQL Server 2005 Express](http://www.sitepoint.com/article/host-net-sql-server-2005)

After digesting that, why not try the Official ASP.NET Site to get you started. Theres also the Microsoft MSDN ASP.NET 2 pages!

Know any other great resources for anyone looking to start exploring ASP.NET 2? Please feel free to share them! :D

ASP.NET 2 is the new ASP.NET which is set to be released with Visual Studio 2005. Currently it is in BETA 2. So there are still things which might change, and the framework (VS2005 in particular) is still a bit buggy. But, as the name suggests, we can expect (hope), that it will be released as final before the end of this year, and from then it will be the new latest and greatest thing.

.NET 2 offers some really cool features (masterpages, skins, site parts, advanced and easier data access tools …and im sure there is more), so i would say, unless you have any pressing projects which you have to complete before the end of the year, i would jump straight into ASP.NET 2 - its a good time to get ahead.

another good link:
WeFly 247 - the BETA experience

Check out the link at the bottom of the page:
“Join the Beta Experience now to get hold of this exceptional training opportunity.”

Microsoft will send you all this:

“In addition to Visual Studio 2005 Team System Beta 2 and the SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Community Technology Preview, you will receive the exclusive training DVD “WeFly247”. This application training DVD will provide you with everything you need to know to build fully functional applications with Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2.”

as there are now sdk and redistribuables available from MS does this mean ASP.NET 2.0 Has in fact been released?

Sir, you are correct, MS .NET Framework 2.0 was released around October 28th, 2005. That includes Redist and SDK. Together with new Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005.

you can download the VS Express 2005 from Microsoft now. It is free.

thanks chaps, i beleive it was released earlier this month. downloading as we speak

The free express versions are a great place to start playing with these new controls and language features…

Wheres the best place to learn about ASP.NET for a seasoned PHP developer.?

I have inherited a site from a client that was developed using ASP.NET with a MySql database. I have no problems with MySql but need to know what the difference is (if any) with ASP.Net. Do I need to get hold of an IDE like ‘Visual Studio’ to access/edit the code or can i just jump straight in with a text-editor?

Any helpful up to date pointers would be welcomed.

For .net books i think there is a website regarding this language and very other languages named W3schools.com in this website i think u will really going to get very important notes which could really help u a lot.So try this site and then send me ur response.
