Facebook launches new comments system

I’ve also read that the new comments systems tend to lag sites that use this system - is this true? Or do you think its a myth?

Well, since they have to go through an API and pull data through from a non-local source, I’d suspect it could cause noticeable lag.

This is great for blog owners, this new comment system will further help exposure of the blog because of the viral nature of Facebook.

That’s a big ambiguous… How do you see it expanding the visibility of the blog?

I don’t think its going to be very helpful either. It may sound good to those who are more like into viral use of facebook but not for me.

I personally feel that the new comments system sucks. As someone else mentioned, it was much easier to add a line break to your comments by hitting enter on your keyboard. Not only is that a difficult habit to “unlearn”, but how can anyone keep track of how to post at one site from the next when each site has different posting procedures? It is become as difficult as trying to write html for all of the different browsers out there, which is impossible.

^That there is called Usability Fail. Users Have Expectations: Don’t Break Them Without Damned Good Reason.

Facebook doesn’t count in my book as a Damned Good Reason.

Exactly right. That’s why I’m not really sure if this is going to bring a smile on facebook users’ faces. It’s kind of useless to me.

I’m cringing that people in my company don’t find out about this because there are a few I know will want to implement this so I’ll have to spend like a week explaining to them why it’s a very bad idea. =p

A lot of people like to keep their work and private lives separate. Me included.

Work is work. Internet forums and message boards are internet forums and message boards. Home, friends and family are home, friends and family. I don’t want those three to get blurred. When I comment on an internet forum, such as the august establishment of SPF, I don’t want it to be linked with my day job - because it is not relevant, and I don’t want any accusations of a conflict of interests, or misrepresenting the company - and I don’t want it to be easy for any random Joe to find out who I actually am.

There’s nothing on Facebook that I’m ashamed of or embarrassed about (OK, maybe one or two of the bands that I’ve ‘liked’), nothing that I wouldn’t happily share with my parents or my boss, but there’s no reason to share it with anyone other than a chosen set of friends and family.

So you can opt out of a comment not being posted on your FB page for everyone to see, correct?

Facebook’s comment system doesn’t support twitter nor Google logins. In addition, and perhaps a non starter for some bloggers, the system does not archive comments. This makes it impossible currently for a blogger to backup their comments.

i like this new comment system

What do you like about it in comparison to the old system?
