I have heard that on 1st of July domain prices are increasing specially .com and .net domain. COM will go up 7%, and .NET by 10%.
Can anybody confirm from reliable resources?
Anyway, domain names costs are not so high at all, a 7% increase/year is not the end of the world.
Keep it up for 10 years, and prices double. 7% is a huge increase in a 1% inflation world. 
It’s unfortunate but true, the prices will be increasing. But 10% is definitely not the end of the world, however those with large domain portfolios will see a significant increase in their renewal fees. Best suggestion would be to renew domain for a few years ahead of time to save money 
DirectI is also going to increase the price; but right now they are selling domains at promotional rates - quite cheap as well.

What parts of the world only have 1% inflation? Here the Government is struggling to keep it under 4%.
Some of the expensive registrars may decide that they can afford to absorb the price rise so that they can advise their current clients that they have done so and so keep them for linger (and perhaps pick up a few more now that their price difference isn’t so great).

Yeah I would agree - the cheap registrars like Godaddy and Namecheap have small margins so will have to pass the price hike along, whereas some registrars still charge $50+ so it is probably easier for them just to absorb it than annoy their customers or change their prices on their websites.
On the topic of these price hikes though - I don’t see the justification for it in any way other than Verisign has a monopoly and an therefore get away with it. This is an above inflation hike for from what I can see as no benefit to the customer. Or can someone enlighten me?

I don’t think it is the size of the registrar that will determine whether they increase their prices or not. It will be how much markup they already have on their prices. Godaddy is one of the cheapest registrars and so has no choice but to increase their prices. There is no bigger company then they. They remain the biggest domain name registrar.
I think you willl see most registers pass on the increases especially if a company as large as Godaddy do it.
I do not believe that will be huge increase at all. Of course prices will go higher. But they will be huge.
It is a price increase in what all the .com registrars have to pay Verisign for each domain registered through them. Whether they pass on that increase in what they sell domains for is up to them. The cheaper ones will probably be more likely to pass on the increase since they have less margin on each sale to start with.
godaddy is increasing their prices on July 1st because of this. I got an email from them a few weeks back about it.
That might not be connected to all existing domain name registrars.
