Does hosting matters in SEO

I am developing a site.
I want to market my products in UK.
Should I host my site in UK server ?
Awaiting for reply.

It shouldn’t matter too much, hosting in the UK will make the site a little bit quicker to respond than if it’s in the US (I’m assuming you’re in the UK).
As long as the server responds in a timely manner, it shouldn’t really matter where it is for SEO purposes.

It depends on whether or not the site has a domain with a .co.uk TLD. If so, then your hosting doesn’t matter.

John Mueller (googler) on the google webmaster forums:

“if your site has a geographic TLD/ccTLD (like .co.nz) then we will not use the location of the server as well. Doing that would be a bit confusing, we can’t really “average” between New Zealand and the USA”

"At any rate, if you are using a ccTLD like .co.nz you really don’t have to worry about where you’re hosting your website, the ccTLD is generally a much stronger signal than the server’s location could ever be"

Since page load speed became more important with the Caffeine update, hosting it in the UK would be better.

Again, it’s a factor that shouldn’t be determined by SEO. If you run a website or service that faces the UK then it makes sense to have hosting in that country. I cannot think of a single reason why it would be any different.

If you read my post above yours you’ll see why it does matter. There’s nothing wrong with targeting a UK market if you’re not in the UK, that’s the beauty of the internet. So why not do the things that will help you rank well on google.co.uk, such as hosting your site on a UK sever and using a .co.uk TLD?

My main gripe is why Google would not want you to host your site closer to your target market, and why you wouldn’t want your domain to reflect that. Additionally, it is far more important to get a reliable host for your target market (in this case, the UK) than to worry about whether Google will care as much.

I’m not sure I understand that. In any case, this was posted in the SEO forum and is a question about SEO. Since the location of your server does matter for SEO both because of page load times and geotargeting, I’d say the question has been answered?

Google want quality in their index so a geo-relevant page and a fast page load time is good for them too, I don’t know why they wouldn’t want that?

i also think that the site should be host in the targeted company but it’s tough job to find a reliable hosting service provider in different countries. does any know about any reliable hosting company in India ?

As long as your load speed is good then you should not have any problems. Just make sure that you are setting your target while you are webmaster tools and you should be fine.

From the research I have carried out, most definitely yes

Be warned 1&1 hold their servers in Germany
