Do you understand how CIDR works?

Maybe it’s because I don’t work with bitwise masking that often, maybe I should have paid more attention to Math in school, maybe my brain is simply getting old and tired.

But whatever the reason, every time I get near bitwise masking I feel like I’m groping in the dark for a shadow.

Can you explain it in layman terms with a few examples that I might be able to understand?
