Debug pack help please

Not that savvy with a computer.
Just downloaded updates (debug pack)for windows.
I have apache,mysql,php7.0.4 installed on my machine for local testing only.
The reason for the debug pack is because I am having trouble with joomla (1st time trying to use it).
I have unzipped pack but have no idea what to do with it from here.

Any ideas/help would be appreciated, and be nice, I’m an old man trying to learn.

You can Copy the downloaded xDebug DLL file in the folder containing other PHP extensions, for example, c:\php\ext\ When this is done, locate and open php.ini file. If there is no such file, locate php.ini-dist and rename it to php.ini. At the end of this file add the following lines:

[Zend]
zend_extension_ts=“c:\php\ext\php_xdebug.dll”
xdebug.remote_enable = on
Replace c:\php\ext\php_xdebug.dll with the full path to your xDebug dll file.

My advise do not try workaround if you are unsure :slight_smile: Better get help from any of your friends who is good with php knowledge.

I see no “dll” files in the “debug pack”

http://windows.php.net/download

AFAIK the “pdb” files are for when PHP is “built” (compiled)

Personally, I run PHP downloaded from http://php.net/downloads.php on a localhost Apache server and not from my Windows 10 OS.

I think mysiteandhost’s idea of using xDebug is more in line with what you’re after.

Thanks guys, finally got it sorted. Was nothing to do with my php install. Only downloaded this joomla 4 days ago and have had that many challenges with it that I’m already not a big fan. I’m 10yrs out of date with php,html, css that I thought joomla might be a good shortcut. As with most shortcuts its turning out to be the longest distance between two points.

Have a good one and I’ll see you on the forum with more stupid questions
