Contact author - clarifications needed

so it appears that a library (cloudfusion) he depends on for much of the programming is now the official amazon aws php sdk - so the setup of the files is completely different.

http://www.getcloudfusion.com

is there any way to reach the author to get some clarifications on how to setup this new library and include it properly in the code samples used in the book?

thanks.

Hi Dave,
I’ll have someone address your post asap.

Ok, I’ve checked into it. Apparently the change happened the week we launched the book! Jeff is aware of it and is working on it now. We’ll let you know as soon as we have updates.

I hope you are able to notify me by email, I probably won’t be checking this forum on a daily basis. At least respond to this thread with any news.

Hi,
I have just joined this forum and want to more resources about that

i did actually reach the author by email, and he said he was going to do something about it, but i’m not sure exactly what or how that will be communicated.

i think one option is to install the 2.5 version of cloudfusion and just follow the book as is.
https://github.com/cloudfusion/cloudfusion/archives/2.5.0

i have done that, but having a variety of issues with certain referenced class not being found when i run the first simple php programs.

it could be my php setup, but i have followed everything to a T, and there are still issues. i had to add additional includes for certain class libraries, just to minimize the list of errors, but as i said, still having issues.

nothing is ever as easy as is advertised - even a simple tutorial using well known tools.

i vote for a new edition, with the current code, and provided free to those of us who purchased the original copy. by their own admission, the original code never worked once it was published.

@dave: let me address both of your points. All the code in the current release of the book was thoroughly tested with CloudFusion 2.5, so those scripts should work as advertised with that release.

More importantly, Jeff has finished his updates to the book’s code, we’re just waiting on approval from Amazon to roll them in and release an updated epack and code archive. Re-downloads of epacks are always available for purchasers of digital editions of our books, so those clients will just want to re-claim their book. HOWEVER, given the circumstances, we will ALSO be emailing clients who purchased the physical book from SitePoint to provide them with a free download of the digital edition. This should be happening in the next few weeks.

Stay tuned!

so if we didn’t buy the dead-tree book from sitepoint, we DON’T get the new code?

bogus - i’m afraid the policy will backfire - i’ll just avoid sitepoint published books in the future all together.

i think you may be mixing up your role as a book publisher and a book seller.

good job on publishing a book that was basically out of date the day it hit the shelves.

@davecampbell : the code archives for all our books are provided free of charge to anyone, whether they own the book or not. The full updated code archive will be made available as soon as the updates are complete, at which point anyone who purchased a dead-tree version of the book will have access to it, whether they bought the book from SitePoint or not.

That being said, if you have any further questions, concerns, or complaints, I’d recommend you contact our support team at books@sitepoint.com, they’ll be able to sort you out with whatever you need.

Hey guys, just letting you know that the code archive for the book, available at http://sitepoint.com/books/cloud1/code.php, has been updated to use the new SDK version. So if you grab that you’ll have working code for all the examples in the book.

The ebook update is still in the works, should be coming very soon.
