There is one domain name that I want to bay. Anything is available (.com, .org, .net …)
But when I’m googling the domain name I want to buy, it’s returning many data from yahoo.
I need to know, if I will buy this domain name (all of this .com, .net, .org), and if someone will google this name, will I be in top results that google will return, or at first will be results from yahoo?
Search results are not static! If you put a site on that domain and make it good quality with useful content and get relevant inbound links then Google will quickly move it up the rankings compared with other sites that just mention the domain name.
But how often do people Google for a domain name? Usually you would expect people to either type the domain name straight in (OK, I know there are a lot who don’t understand the address bar and can’t get beyond “type it into Google” but even so…) or more commonly type relevant key words into Google.
Okay, I just thought that maybe google will at first look for domain name, and after that for any other information. For example if I have somedomain.com, and someone have searched somedomain, at first will be returned somedomain.com, and after that it will search in websites that have in his content word somedomain.
The problem with that logic is that anyone could be top of any search query simply by buying that domain. So, for argument sake, if Coca Cola bought pepsimax.com Coca Cola could be #1 for their main competitors brand name.
I’ve tried to test this logics. I have searched [web design] and google return several results. But it return webdesign.com in the first page, but not the first result.
So, I think that in any case it give some priority to domain names.
More likely webdesign.com has been optimized very well for the term “web design”. Given that they have such a high value domain name, I would imagine it’s a well capitalized company that runs the website. Opposing your test results, sitepoint.com ranks in the top 5 results of Google for “web design books” when none of those words are in the domain name.
Actually, if you are asking whether you will be listed for the brand name or the website domain words, yes, Google does provide some value to the domain name. Even in case of a competitive keyword as a domain, by just properly optimizing your website with less efforts, you can easily show up on the first page.
Yes, I need just to be listed in results. Because some users just writing in google the name and searching, because thay may not remember for example that was .com or .org. So they will just search domain name to find it, and it will be good for me to be listed there.
If that’s the case, Yes, you can be listed for the brand name and even if the domain is keywords filled. But when your domain name is with competitive keyword, as I had mentioned earlier little bit of optimizing effort is required.
Not necessarily. If your domain name has keywords and there is no domain with such keywords over the web, then chances are high that your domain name gets an easy ranking in the top of SERP. You will have to do optimization for your site to get it on the top and wait for a little while until your domain gains authenticity.
