For me and my niche (t-shirts) facebook has been golden…do I think its good for promotion/brand awareness - yes…why?
Well, I just created a fan page (which I suggest you do, fanpages are, in my eyes better than groups as they make interaction and engagement easier - more interactions = more eyeballs to find out about your product/service etc) about 2.5 months ago and it is now just shy of 1,300 fans…Sadly, I don’t have that many friends but thankfully now about at least 1,300 people know of my brand…
The way I see it, to use facebook successfully for promotion you cannot be in sales mode, you can’t be Mr. Gung-ho Pitch, you have to open, honest, transparent and give “fans” something that they can’t get elsewhere…give them incentives to join, give them reasons to engage with you…if one fan leaves a comment on your page then all of that fans friends will see the comment in their wall field - if it is a positive review or something favorable then some of the fans friends might check out your fanpage…
There are quite a few things I’ve done to help grow our fanpage like:
- Competitions run via the fanpage
- discount for “fav t-shirt is…” (or whatever is appropriate for your niche)
- Keep interacting
- Create a poll
- Ask your friends to join
- Fanpage Exchanges
- Facebook Ads
- Targets
- Blogs
- Website
…I expand on all of these things in my blog which hopefully might be of some use to some of you…The blog is geared towards t-shirts (as that is my niche) but the ideas and principals are applicable to any area…
Ultimately, I think its how you view facebook - facebook should be used to foster a relationship and build trust, not to open and close a deal/sale/whatever…
