In my opinion there are great benefits to blogging. Blogging is a great way to increase traffic to the site. SEO is really only one very small part of the many benefits being discovered. Direct communications , brand building etc are also benefits of blogging. Blogging is a way to share our knowledge also.

I like the fact that I can write something, think about it for a few days, come up with a better way to say what I said and change it.

Like, it's not permanent, if I don't like what I said, I can fix it. If I was too tired when I posted and miss spelled something or worded something clumsy, I can fix it after I've slept on it.

You know there are many ways to monetize a blog beyond Adsense. I'm finding that other advertisers are paying more.

Other than monetizing...it's a lot of fun and a great way build search engine relevance. It's a great opportunity to share your thoughts whatever your endgame is.

The benefits far outweight the time spent.

Blogging gives me valuable writing practice, albeit a different type of writing. I keep niche blogs in the topics I enjoy. It's pleasurable writing. It also gives me practice working with WordPress as a CMS. I'm always trying out new plug-ins. I have the hands-on experience that I can bring to my clients.

I've always thought blogs are way underestimated in value. Here's a blog post I wrote in April that describes the extreme power behind blogs and social networking that I call the Net Effect - How your blog, social networking and websites work together.

Then there's another about why a blog is better than a traditional website.
