Which is better?

If you’re using your computer for work, windows or osx is the way to go. Linux is by no means a bad OS, but it doesnt offer anything new to your workflow.

That doesn’t make it better - it just makes it your preference. smile

Really? I’ve been working on Linux for years now, and never looked back. smile

I think choice of OS is a bit like choice of shoes - it depends what you want to do and what you feel comfortable with. There’s no one-size-fits-all “best” solution.

Though Windows has become more stable in recent years, most experts do not view it as a more stable operating system than Linux. Linux is highly secure operating system where as windows operating system has largest user base.So it depends on your use and with which OS you are comfortable.

Indeed. Windows has a larger market share (though that might be shrinking), but is thrown together so quickly and with minimal testing before release as to be compromised fairly easily. And don’t get me started on the whole spying thing that Win10 does.

OSX - whatevs. I’d never use it. Not when it was a native OS, and not even as a graphic overlay to FreeBSD. Although I do give Apple props to switching to Intel CPUs. RISC processors sucked. And I do feel that FreeBSD is more secure than the OS Apple used to make.

Linux… I’d LOVE to kick Micro$oft to the curb, but the truth is that software manufacturers of the apps that I commonly use don’t make *nix versions, so I’m stuck with Winblows.

I have a VM, at home, of Debian Mint with a MATE desktop, and I LOVE IT!!! I just play with it, nothing serious, but it is so easy to use and maintain.

Windows is easy to use. Linux is used for better security .
But, I cannot be familiar with Linux:neutral_face:. It seems to me very complex:thinking:.

Start with something like Ubuntu, which is designed to be easy to use.

We have a friend in her eighties using Xubuntu (an Ubuntu variant) on a computer we set up for her, and not only can she manage it OK, but any visitors she’s had have been able to use it without problem, even though they’re used to Windows or Mac.

I’d agree. I think in some respects linux (particularly Ubuntu) is easier to use for general web surfing, the odd ‘word’ doc and even photos, than MS or Apple.

My parents have been using Ubuntu for years now on a machine i built for them and apart from the occasional update they have no problems and don’t have to worry about antivirus updates every 5 minutes.

Adding programs is brilliant once you get the idea that you use the package manager. So simple and safe compared with adding random downloaded programs for MS etc.

Thats not to say linux can’t cut the mustard when you need to do work. I used blender to create a 3d animation that would require 3 or 4 hours rendering time at 100% cpu and it rarely fell over.

I think that Linux. Its lightweight, free and secure. Thats all…
