What's the best monitor for artist?

I’m buying a Macbook Pro. What’s the better monitor for an artist/designer/photographer?

  • MacBook Pro 17-inch Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display
  • MacBook Pro 17-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display

Antiglare can give more accurate colors, glossy will give more vivid color.
Most professional monitors are matte with antiglare coatings.
Like my Dell U3011 I got. Or like several NEC professional series.

A few people who’ve bought new Apple devices with the glossy screen (iMac, Cinema Display, Macbook Pro) have needed to reorganize their workspace to avoid glare issues (reflection, sun, angle).

I have the glossy iMac screen and reflection/glare is a bit of a problem, so be aware of that. Everyone I know who has a MacBook (or other laptop) for artwork plugs their computer into a big, separate screen anyhow, so you might consider that, too. Are you happy to do artwork on a small screen? If so, that’s not an issue for you.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. The Apple sales person said I should go for the glossy if I am doing digital and the non-glossy for print. I’m not sure I agree with him. He stated the glossy has richer colors for digital media and the non-glossy was truer to color for print.

Yes, maybe for you, but others on non-glossy screens will see something different anyway, so you may end up in a fool’s paradise, so to speak.
