What is the difference between .htaccess and robots.txt?

Please someone let me know the difference between these two:

.htaccess and robots.txt

.htaccess is a system file that runs on Apache servers, and can contain all sorts of control information. It is principally used to manage redirects and do to set custom error pages. You can’t access .htaccess, it just sits there doing its thing.

robots.txt is a text file that has one purpose and one purpose only - it tells “robots” (mostly search engine spiders) of any sections of your website that you don’t want them to access - they can decide whether or not to act on these suggestions. Anyone can read a site’s robots.txt file if they want to, and it doesn’t force anything to happen.

For someone who runs a hosting and SEO/internet marketing company I would have thought that to be basic knowledge.

I do hope that your clients dont find this in google when searching for your obvious marketing tactics and to be honest, spamming a forum where a huge percentage of the members are in the industry seems to be a really bad idea.

Not a great way to demonstrate your marketing abilities eh?
