Tags Won't Open - why?

I was checking my site in Google Webmaster Tools and discovered my tags don’t open. Please go to this page and down on lower right are a bunch of keyword tags. Try clicking any of them…notice they won’t open? Why? Is there a remedy or anything I can do? I have version 4.5.3 and WooCommerce theme but note, I see in my wp-admin that the WooCommerce plugin needs updating…could that also be the problem?

possible but not likely.

best thing to do would be to make sure everything is the latest version and see if it still happens. If it does then let us know which plugins are active.

I clicked on “Medical” and had to wait a long time, but eventually a page opened with all the cartoons having that tag. Maybe it is just a performance issue and you need to deal with the speed.

I agree

dev tools gave me a DOM content loaded of 58 seconds.

Even those with more than average patience are unlikely to want to wait nearly full minute.

I found these two plugins are the ones needed to be upgraded but will wait for my developer to do this. I am afraid if I try it, I’ll break the site. As for speed, I am curious how I can actually speed it up though. I have it on a VPS host which I thought would speed it up. I do use CloudFlare for additional nameserver assistance but it seems with WorpPress, it’s one thing or the other

Your Google Tag Manager for WordPress plugin also has an available update.

Oh boy…I think this could be the problem WebMachine…thanks for the heads up! I need to get at my developer tomorrow and ask for help.

The site is currently broken. You need to click on the 3 at the top of the screen and allow it to update everything listed there in order to fix the current security issues.

Any number other than 0 at the top of that page indicates that you are running broken code and need to update it to fix it.

Yes, I’ve been experiencing these outages over the last month and my experience has been to go into my wp-admin and then to SETTINGS>PERMALINKS and just visiting the permalinks or clicking “updating” there has given me a fix, albeit a temporary fix until I can update my plugins. So am awaitinf response / help from my designer since I do not want to try this myself…I will mess something up I am certain. Really, I use very few plugins, and made a promise to myself to avoid reliance on plugins, yet, here I find myself totally reliant on the actions of someone else to assist me. If you can, go to this page here (BE PATIENT ON SLLLOOWWW PAGE LOAD)and on right column, those category links ought to be opening now, correct?

Please remember to backup your site (in particular the wp-content folder, the .htaccess file and the wp-config file) and your database before you try updating any of the plugins or the core.

Not getting any help, so going to try updating these plugins myself. So my next question is how I actually backup my site and the wp-content folder, the .htaccess file and the wp-config file) and your database . I have VPS hosting and want to make certain I am doing this correctly (I am beginning to hate WordPress)

This is not just a WordPress thing. All websites need to be backed up on a regular basis, and kept up to date.

Download the files using an FTP client, or if you have CPanel, from your File Manager. The wp-config and .htaccess files are in the root of the site, and the wp-content folder is inside the themes folder. You should be able to access your database through your hosting account - most of them provide PhpMyAdmin for managing the databases. If yours does and you are not sure what to do there, just let us know. You want to export the database and save it to your computer.

Then go ahead and update those three plugins. If you are not sure about this, it is best to update them one at a time and test your website after each update to make sure that the update went smoothly. If you update them all at once and something goes wrong, you won’t know which plugin created the issues.

A simple solution is the BackWPup plugin that allows you to have your WordPress install and database backed up automatically at regular intervals to one or more locations that are not on your hosting - eg DropBox.

Yes, it seems as though my designer has abandoned me…so in the midst of this, I’ve been studying ways to backup my site and I did find out about verifying the folders in cPanel. I then go to my cPanel and discover I need an updated license to access the cPanel…see screenshot. I contacted the hosting company, and it seems as though they have taken a vacation or something, no answer to a couple of tickets I created. But see the screenshot. I appreciated your mentioning the plugin, however, a plugin is the last thing I need. Really, I have way too many plugins in this site and it’s one of the most frustrating aspects of all this. If it isn’t the plugins, then you have trouble with your cPanel, if it isn’t that, it’s whether or not your actual theme will allow specific functions to perform on your site. Really, it’s frustrating to say the least…especially after spending roughly $2000 for designing the site, php scripting and another grand for data entry…then discovering the site needed more space and VPS hosting was implemented for another $600 and on & on. Really, I look back at Microsoft Frontpage 2002 which seemed way more user-friendly (I miss that functionality)…this garbage seems to be a whole different madness.
