Table Column Width: Why? SOLVED

This is just a quick question about why a table column is so wide.

Web page http://www.c5d.co.uk/alt1871.php

Column 3/4 marked “Houses” I should have thought that the phrase would have taken the whole column and not had a space either side. It also leaves the Inhabited column underneath wider than the Uninhabited one.

I have looked at the element (with Firefox & Chrome checkers, and cannot see anything.

Am I missing something, or misunderstanding something.

Thanks

By default, table get their width from the content. Notice the width of the inhabited content in item #38.
