We are a small company of 16 people but are looking to expand to around 30 by the end of the year and so should be easily scalable. We would need to be able to easily share and edit files and have a version control.
It also has to work as an internal and external portal as we want to share with clients as well as internally.
My take is it is a bunch of different systems – the fatal flaw with SharePoint is it tries to do everything and anything so it doesn’t do anything well.
If I had to pick one thing as a drop-in replacement, I’d go with a custom google app domain. But alot really has to do with what exactly your portal is doing as that term is real nebulous in 2011.
There are numbers of alternatives available in market which are open source and also affordable. Some of are Google Cloud Connect, Alfresco, Kerio Workspace etc.
If I have to pick then Microsoft SharePoint is the perfect for enterprises, there are many flexible features and functionality which will help businesses in future too.
This thread is almost three years old, and the OP has never returned. They have presumably long-since found a solution and there is no point reviving the discussion now. Thread closed.
