Safe to delete core file?

I am trying to clean up my server but I am not sure what files are safe to delete. I see how few files are in the newer versions of Wordpress, so is It safe to delete the ones dated 2011?

Hi there,

It’s hard to tell.
Why don’t you copy the files in question to your PC, delete them from your server, then make sure that your WP install still works.
If anything breaks, you can just re-upload them.

That’s not a perfect way to tell. Not all files are needed at all times. Some are for different sections of wordpress that you might not necessarily visit during testing.

Wordpress does a good job at depreciated core files with each upgrade. There’s no need to do anything.

However–if you are seriously concerned about old files hanging around, backup all your files, then delete everything except the files in your root folder and your wp-content subfolder (or any other special custom files/folders). Then, download a fresh copy of wordpress unzip it in your root folder. However, I would not recommend this if there is actually nothing wrong with your site.

That’s what I was thinking… That not all files are used at all times. Its not a problem so I guess I’ll just leave it. Thanks guys.
