Rules of Engagement

How did this community crier make you feel? Me sort of unappreciated.

I’m sorry to hear that Michelle! May I ask why it made you feel that way?
I personally didn’t feel under appreciated. I think it was kind of neutral about the forums, but just stating that the SitePoint ‘emperium’ (so to speak) is constantly expending to meet the need of it’s customers. As they say, the times they are changing. And SitePoint needs to change with them, as does any other business in the world

People come for knowledge and stay for talk, if talk is not cheap and forum management is not full of political fad.

Lately, there is a fad politic going on SPF.

As a personal note to Sarah, failing is a personal struggle, is not a community effort.

Wow, those are quite heavy accusations to make without anything backing them up! Care to elaborate on them? If you can’t / won’t I will see this as trolling and act accordingly.

You mean you feel unappreciated? Do you need a hug? :stuck_out_tongue:

Nothing is community effort. Succeeding is also a personal struggle, a struggle of the community leaders.

Failing is part of success. You don’t fail only when you do nothing.

I take it you feel unappreciated as well. Do you need a hug too? :stuck_out_tongue:

Take a chill pill Scallio. Otherwise you may have to withdraw measures against me, like you did once before.

Remember, when you gave me an infraction under false pretend and you had to take it back? I didn’t receive any apology from you, but I see you are eager to prove me right. Once again.

No, I’m not looking for appreciation on SPF. About the hug, it depends. Is Saul a name like Sam? Is this name hiding, in fact, a deliciously lascivious female, in her late 20s or early 30s ? :stuck_out_tongue:

The admin and some staff is, though, looking for more appreciation than they deserve, on SPF. And they play fad politics to their advantage to get it.

More proof, Scallio? As a personal example, I was cursed, here, on SPF. I was being told to STFU. And I got an infraction when I defended my self (mind you, I never cursed back, or anything like that), because staff was waiting for me to go ballistic in order to find reasons against me, and didn’t move a finger against the offender. And the offender was a dear friend of felgall. Which gave me the infraction. Fad politics.

Later, I was directly offended by spikeZ’ slum language, and misuse of it’s forum power, by putting my name on an offending title on a thread I didn’t started. But the admin “didn’t find any problem with it”. Because I was not playing ball, and was actually starting an honest tech talk upon results and entries of a tech competition. Imagine that? The nerve I had to expect that talk to be honest! The same fad politics.

It would be interesting to know why you felt that way.

In my case, I think that it simply points out a truth. Communities thrive because of people but keeping people interested and enganged, even if there is no commercial pursuit or goal, it is really tough. With no people, the community will die.

SitePoint is a company which needs to sell to live. You don’t sell if you don’t promote. But keeping a balance between commercial and communities is really difficult because people tend to think that they only thing the company wants is their money. That’s not necessarily true.

Hearing the truth it doesn’t make me feel unappreciated but more like there is a deeper relationship where we can leave white lies behind and be mature enough to face the problems ahead.

No and I only asked if you needed a hug (courtesy), I didn’t say I’m gonna give you one. :shifty:

In that case, what say you Saul, do you need a Ferrari? :stuck_out_tongue:

PS Drop down the courtesy, it doesn’t suit you.

No, I don’t need a Ferrari. I might want one though. Though I’ve always fancied Lamborghini’s more, for no particular reason.

I believe the above would’ve helped your wanting. :stuck_out_tongue:

 I wouldn’t be that kinda girl!

Sure, sure, sure… anyway, if you don’t want the Ferrari, give it to me. I wouldn’t use it but I would make some money selling it

Thanks, noonnope, for giving Saul (or Saulie, now that he’s a she) a Ferrari that then he will give to me so I can sell it…

Now, let’s go back to the original topic (that’s what a member of the staff would say… not me, of course :p)

Yep a Hug would be nice

Okay so I got one of the books, joined the forum. Did a pretty good job at first making helpful design suggestions in Reviews and Critiques. Specific good suggestions. Sometimes was hard, wanting to write, why did you pick those colors! I started to notice more and more Reviews making more specific good suggestions.

I ask questions etc. Like this one. I am sorry :frowning: Just sharing how the article made me feel.

My rule for other people is have a problem suggest a fix, suggested fix is, offer active forum members, a special discount. I took the facebook ads course, liked it, but my friend can do the same course for the same price. Or maybe T-shirt or something. Free advertising on the Marketing site.

I see a lot of businesses do the specials for new people, but it turns away current clients. So start with your current members. Then as new members see they will stick around.

Michelle

That’s OK. Just because I’m happy doesn’t mean that you have to be happy. Ask Saul for the Ferrari! If he gives it to you, you’ll be a lot happier and I’d be extremely mad! :stuck_out_tongue:

Now I know that I’m just asking because I’m dumb but I’m not entirely sure if I understand the sentence.

hugs

Well, I think that would cause more trouble than do good. How do you define an active member? There may be thousands of active members and awarding them all might make SP go bankrupt. And if you award only select members there will always be many unhappy people who didn’t get anything. That’s a dangerous route to go.

You need some sort of qualification, such as contests or discounts for previous customers. And SP does that (such as this). I’ve won several books through the years of being an active member here and I certainly don’t feel unappreciated.

“Under false pretenses”? Sure, I made a mistake, but it was never under false pretenses. I just got it wrong and thought I apologized for that. If I didn’t, I apologize now, and apologize for not apologizing!

Nevertheless, the fact that I was wrong then does not imply that am I wrong now (where did you get that logic?). Simple fact is that in post #3 of this thread you were accusing Sarah of being a bad administrator (not with so many words, but the implication was painfully clear), without giving any reason as to why.
In my book that constitutes a personal attack, or even slander. That in itself was worth an infraction, right there, right then.
However, instead of just giving you that, I gave you a fair chance to explain yourself. Something you have yet to do.

What does that even mean, “Looking for more appreciation then they deserve”? You make it sound like SPF is all some big fat conspiracy of some kind.

You didn’t curse, but you did say some things that weren’t very pretty in the post you got the infraction for. Let’s leave it at that.

The thread started to derail somewhere, and since spikeZ made the decision (a decision I’m totally behind, in case you’re wondering) to split the off-topic part of the thread off in to a new one. The fact that the thread was on your name is simply because spikeZ deemed the first off-topic post in the thread was from you. Had it been any other member who got off-topic first, spikeZ would have split it off from there, and that would have automatically put that thread in that member’s name. You can’t put a post before other posts in a thread that is already going (a limitation of vBulletin), and since that wasn’t an option (we would have done it if it was) the thread remained in your name.
I am however 100% sure that that action was not aimed at you personally!

Now, I’ve got the feeling that you have no idea just how grave the accusation you made in post #3 is!
You’re accusing the staff, everyone we know and their aunts of fad politics, but your medieval-like public flogging without anything to back it up should just be allowed? Did you really think we would just let that post go by no questions asked?

I see you didn’t take the chill pill.

BTW, did you get an “moderator infarction” when you were wrong in giving me one? 'Cos there was exactly this much of personal involvement and bias from your part in that thread to call your action fad politics and false pretense. Like in this one.

You imply I said something offending in my post about STFU. It had no trace of such thing, don’t play mystery hour and backside slander with me.

One more thing about spikeZ: he was also a judge in that comp. Being a judge, I think he should have restrain from moderating a topic where his performance was in question, OK?! And he did meant me when he was offending in its post and moderation acts.

All this said, I’ve explained my self. Plenty. I have said my piece, and gave clear examples.

Nothing you said in defending your self or the other staff I’ve pointed at, nor your “apologies” are genuine. You fail to explain staff behavior, but you place a second burning paper bag on my porch.

Now, go play your little “let’s watch how I try to intimidate you” or “let me inflame you so you can outburst and give me reason” games somewhere else. OK?

You’re the one trolling this topic, the way I look at it.

You really don’t get it, do you? You can’t just drag someone out in public without giving any reason and expect we just sit here and take it. Yes, it’s that simple.

As far as I’m aware, there were at least several occasions where this particular scenario happened to me on SPF, and by SPF staff, of all the users.

And you all did exactly that: sit and watched. Now you get it?

And don’t keep saying I was not giving reasons, 'cos I did. I gave more than that: facts. Your denial doesn’t make it false. Your cover up: “Sure, I made a mistake, but it was never under false pretenses. I just got it wrong and thought I apologized for that. If I didn’t, I apologize now, and apologize for not apologizing!” is insulting for anyone with a half brain. And far as I know, at least half my brain is still showing me good times when I sleep. And my dreams are not about SPF, don’t jump the gun yet!

Now will you stop trolling? Or this forum is only allowing “I <3 HAWK” type of messages?!
