Quoting posts in forum replies

Hi SamA74

thanks for the reply.

One more thing i would like to ask is “How do you quote” somebody’s reply in your post

after the discourse transition i am not able to find it ??

“How do you quote” somebody’s reply in your post ??

The easiest way I find (if you are a mouse user) is to highlight the piece of text by dragging. Then a box pops up “quote reply”, click the box.

To make a block quote, start the line with a greater than symbol >

thanks sam

for showing how to quote.

earlier there used to have a button saying “reply with quote” which was visible under post

There may have been, I don’t remember. You would think there would be another way.

That was on vBulletin, before we moved to Discourse software.

@SamA74’s method is probably the easiest if you’re using a mouse.

You can also use keyboard shortcuts: j/k let you navigate up and down the posts, then q will quote the whole post.

If you’ve used the reply button on a post (rather than the one at the end of the topic) you can also click the “speech bubble” icon in the edit window, which will quote the whole post to which you’re replying.

thanks technobear for more options on quoting

I do both.

If I want to quote the entire post I do
Reply → 🗩 (Quote whole post)

If I want to quote portions of the post I use my mouse to select the portion
