Professional auction scripts - phpprobid vs ilance vs other?

You don’t buy ILance to resell it. You buy it to launch a business. If you’re in the business to resell software you’ll need to build your own.

do your “customers - show us only one successfull site” have another choice than reselling your buggy scripts

use google and just do a search and the only thing you will find are DEAD websites short from closing their business.

better invest your money in ms shares…

I have to agree. Every iLance site I have seen is dead, some with branding some not. The only people I have seen trying to sell the script are customers who tried to run an iLance site and failed.

The only thing everyone is concerned about is that there isn’t any iLance site in 8 years that succeeded that anyone but you knows about. It is the worst track record I have seen for any software, nothing personal. You should think of giving away some copies or selling them at a really low price or your portfolio of successful customers to show us will remain at 0%.

that’s perfect true. why would a successful customer not want to show their site to the public? it would mean more publicity, more customers and more money in their pocket. i’d me more that happy to show a good, well running site to everyone.

their is only one reason:

NO SUCCESSFUL CUSTOMER AT ALL

@salzmann: do you have a reasonable explanation for that?

please dont come up with domystuff now, they’ve putted their head in the sand and cry or ran away from their investors cause they can not pay the money back.

what you need are success stories. look at other vendors websites. they all provide stories from their customers or even samples. if you have active customers then ask them to show up here and post some stories. if you cant do that, then i have to say that your customers are also not happy with what they have.

please dont come up with your demo site now, i wont tell you how it looks like.

do something to show the world that your product is not just a bunch of buggy scripts. pay your successful customers if they do not what to show their site free of charge.

come on mr. salzmann, proof that you and your scripts are worth paying money for.

Well guys, a few months ago I began researching auction software when I came across ilance. I was very put off by all the negative reviews (bashing). I then came to realize that I have rarely seen so much bashing from real customers, it’s always from competitors more often than not. Peter’s relentless defense of his software is what finally made me hop down off the fence and take the plunge. I figured that anyone that was so responsive to negative review/posts would have to at least be half as responsive to his customers, and I was not let down. Keep doing what you are doing Peter, the negative comments actually made me buy the software!

I must admit that I have only had the software for 24 hours now, but it installed like a charm. I’ve spent the majority of my time with it testing out functionality and have yet to find anything that doesn’t work, not saying it’s perfect (no software is) just I haven’t found anything yet. I was impressed with the bug list, I saw bugs identified and fixed in the same day (viewing previous bugs).

When I first bought the program, I was half expecting a dead forum with minimal posts. I was surprised to find that it is very active with thousands of members. (Although I can’t say how many are still active.) The forum leaders are very active and quick to respond in the “licensed” forums. I was initially put off by the seemingly dead public forum, but as a licensed user now, I really don’t see myself really posting there either, so now I can see why it is the way it is. You guys would only post negative posts on the public forum anyways, and how does that help anyone except the competing company you represent.

I really don’t care if anyone bashes my post for whatever reason, I just want people to know that the forum is very active, and the script is not buggy as some would have you believe. The support is quick and responsive, don’t believe me? Send anyone of the forum leaders a PM from the public forum and see how quick you get a response. My main reason for posting this is not to address the bashing, but to put it out there for anyone considering ilance to power their website to make your own judgement of the software through the demo.

As for not being able to find a “successful” powered by ilance site, most will purchase rights to remove the branding and those that don’t probably couldn’t afford it or the investment to properly market their site. If my site was already successful I sure wouldn’t identify it as an ilance powered site so that guys like you could bash it. I would keep it anonymous to keep you haters away. You all have probably shopped on one and didn’t even know it. Check your bookmarks, it’s in there.

I would say that I’ll come back and give you an update on how my site is doing, but I probably wont. Feeding trolls isn’t normally my thing but consider this one a freebie.

@lancefake: I also agree with your arguments

to the il…ce newbie:

lets wait until you dig deep enough into the scripts and after you’ve tested some thinks. you’ll see how you get along with it in a few weeks, depending on the time spent with it but i’d say around christmas time. it’ll be a rather shocking surprise for you…

do you know the difference between a dumb and a intelligent guy?

intelligent guys learn from their own mistakes AND from the mistakes others experienzed
smart guys learn from their own mistakes
dumb guys dont learn from their own mistakes AND also NOT from experienzes others have had

do you think that we discuss all this just for fun or to promote other software? if so, then you’re definitely on the wrong way

i’m sure that most people use google to get an idea about a product or any other kind of information they would like to have. and i’m also sure that you belong to those people. want to buy a new flat tv? ask google and read reviews. sure, you cant always ask google or others about their opinion, you have to make you own experienzes as well. but if their is not a single positive feedback about a the tv in question, would you still buy it?

i tell you something mate: ask people in the forum about their experiences with the product and if anyone of them has a site to show (not a dead one). beliefe me, you will not find a single person at all - i would be very surprised if you do find someone… I’d really like to see a site in action before spending houndrets of dollar just for fun. would you buy a car if not a single guy drives that vehicle?

but you have decided to buy that car and now you will learn why others do not drive that masterpiece, have fun.

would like to hear your experienzes.

So your big investment passed the install test!! HA!!! You had it 24 hours but come here to post a testimonial? I smell a fake.

When I first bought the program, I was half expecting a dead forum with minimal posts. I was surprised to find that it is very active with thousands of members. (Although I can’t say how many are still active.)

Who cares if 10,000 people signed up but only 8 people are posting? If the forum had so many members, why don’t we see even ONE successful site using iLance? There should be 10 customer demo sites, at least.

My main reason for posting this is not to address the bashing, but to put it out there for anyone considering ilance to power their website to make your own judgement of the software through the demo.

The demo isn’t a real site in operation. Anyone with half a brain knows this but you spent the money (if you are real.) If the demo worked, there should be a dozen customer sites listed or you could name one that shows it operates with ecommerce and payment systems.

You all have probably shopped on one and didn’t even know it. Check your bookmarks, it’s in there.

This is how I know you are a fake poster and you sound more like Peter. If you know that we all have shopped on iLance sites WHY ARE YOU NOT NAMING THEM???

I think what bothers people is we came looking for a solution and all we get are marketing speak and hype, hype, hype and people buying iLance software and finding out they can’t sell it. Until we see some sites listed that use Ilance we can assume iLance doesn’t work properly or well.

Hello guys,
I just signed up because I wanted to join this thread.

My company is a software house and has some experienced web developers in house so we would be able to design a Marketplace solution by ourself. However we are going to launch a big marketplace project and deal with some important competitors, so we prefer to use a ready-to-go, reliable, tested and stable solution rather than developing a new solution from scratch.

We don’t want to start this project with the wrong foot because plenty people and companies are waiting our marketplace and we don’t want to disappoint them. There is also another reason, as you might have noticed from my post, we are not English mother tongue so we should also spend time and money to translate (or at least correct) our own solution, even for the basic features.

Said that, I was in charge of performing a search to find the proper solution and to be honest I didn’t find many solutions for a reasonable price. I found a lot of e-commerce or auction frameworks, but only ILance had everything we were looking for. Basically we need a software that allows our customers (sellers, companies and simple final buyers) to sell products and services trough our portal, developing their own market. Users should be able to deposit/withdraw funds and use them to pay the sellers. The auction part is not planned in the first step.

I was very impressed by ILance demo, I played with it for a couple of hours and I found everything we needed. I didn’t find any so completed competitors on the net, if you know some, please let me know. I was so impressed that I went to prepare a report for my colleagues in order to buy ILance asap.

Unfortunately when I googled it, in order to collect reviews and comparison tables, I found a couple of forum (like this one) with very bad reviews and this thing, even if in some posts they seem just bashing, turned me off…

I would like to hear some other parers from REAL ILance users and I’d like to get some further explanation from those who hates it, like which kind of bugs is affected, the severity of those issues, the time to fix them by the ILance devs, and especially, the alternatives to ILance.

IMO, if you are so angry with ILance it means that you needed/paid/had a marketplace project, then, if you no longer use ILance (because you had a such bad experience with) I assume that now you are using an alternative, isn’t it? Let me explain better, I cannot believe that you paid ILance if you didn’t need a marketplace and if you needed it, you should have a new solution right now, else you were just bashing it…

Thank you for reading my long ‘horrible english’ post, I need an help from you, any info pointing me in the right direction will be appreciated

Let me tell you something: I AM a real ilance customer, and I tried to use this marketplace thing. You are right, there are not many solutions on the market at a reasonable price but:

if you assume that they have testet at least 70% of their funcitonality, then you are wrong
if you assume that they tested full ssl support, then you are wrong
if you assume that they tested all payment gateways, then you are wrong
if you assime that they tested even basic things within the user registration, then you are wrong

just ask the guys for SSL-Support on their demo site… there simply is no ssl support available. guess why?

ask the guys for demo payment gateway? nothing there … guess why?

the framework is not that bad but they should put more effort in prepare tests, execute tests, fix bugs … the usual software release cycle

but they don’t do that, what you get is a framework that you have to test all over again. you cannot assume that any functionality works as expected. If you are a real ilance user then just go to the bug tracker and see what kind of bugs people find… amazing… even the basic from the basic things do not work.

anyway, if I could turn back time and start again, I would definitely write down the software specification, hire an expert (or expert team) to do the coding and launch business.

if you hire an expert (or a team) and have a specification then you get what you specified, no more and no less… but at least thats for sure

with ilance you get a bunch of script and need to put a lot of time in with testing, fixing, waiting for the holy ilance team to fix the bugs or even wait for the next release…

Hi mrburns,
Thank you for your contribute.

That’s what can definitely turn me off… I’m scared to discover some security issues when it’s too late. I’m not afraid about basic bugs or graphic glitches, you can easily find and fix them. I’m more scared by code/sql injections because you get them only after then someone exploited them :frowning:

I don’t want to hire a team, we are a software house ourself, and we are also very experienced to start writing our own application rather than pay (a lot, usually it’s very expensive) someone else…

The point is that our project is pretty important (and urgent) and we don’t want to start it in beta stage nor to present to our customers a buggy/unstable solution, so our idea was to get a ready-to-go solution.

Did you hear about any other valid alternative? As far as I looked for, no valid competitors offer the same package. I don’t like PhpBid nor PhpAuction, they are too focused on auctions and they are not so flexible.

Hello!

If you need the software asap and want to present a - lets call it ready to go - solution, then you better not show ilance to your customer. It looks very nice and there are a lot of features, still if you look under the hood you will find things that are available in the backend and frontend and do not work. just as an example: If you install the software you have to choice of storing pics, downloads,… within the db or in the filesystem. the filesystem part does not work properly, it’s not coded to the end so if you shift the data from the db to the fs your data will be lost cause the function does also not work. The other thing are warnings in IE (yellow triangle) … ajax errors…

downloads with ssl enabled does also not work, but you’ll find that out when it is to late as you do not have access to the forum (bug tracker) section.

all those little things will drive you crazy after a while, especially if you customize a lot of things … you have to do those customizations all over again when a new version of ilance is released. frustrating after a while … i’ll tell you …

I would never show the software to any of my clients nor letting them do some basic testing with it. I mean writing exactly what you (your client) needs would be the best way. I’ve spent at least 150-200 hours testing, adapting, fixing, modifying code and I do NOT use the accounting stuff…

thats some of my experiences,

one thing i’d like to add here is browser compatibility.

just surf to the demo site using ie6 and a resolution of 1280x1024

of course some may argue that “who the hell uses ie6 in times if ie8” but as far as i can tell you some clients, big clients still use ie6

so the statement is that your clients have to adapt to the new software.

do you think that this is the correct way of keeping clients happy? i dont…

usually the software has to adapt to the clients needs and not the other way around.

and yes, you may adapt all templates and include a fixed width and height, but you have to do that process again every time you want to update to a newer version, and that costs time and money. how would you explain to a customer that they have to spend thousands of dollars every 6 month for adapting the templates to the new version?

translations: not all of them are in the xml file… i’d say that a few percent are hardcoded in the scripts

email encoding: special characters in emails may also cause some troubles

i think thats enough for today

Sometimes there isn’t an easy solution. Some marketer plays the role as developer and throws up some piece of junk because every sucker developer is hoping to find a solution that works and there isn’t any great alternative. So you are led to hoping that everything you want to believe is true, even against your instincts.

And this is the problem. All of us wanted to believe this software works. But when you can’t even find one site that is making even a small successful go with the software you have to wonder why. There should be at least 50 ilance sites that are successful after 8 years in business. But not even one or two? Believe what you want to believe but for almost two thousand clams you better hope and pray it works.
