Prefer to Job or Business?

Both have good and bad sides. On business startup you normally don’t have much security which can be a problem, especially if you have loans to take care of. I know how it was when I started my business (and closed it 6 months later). On the other hand, there is no limit on what you can achieve, you are your own boss, you have the freedom to develop your organization any way you want and claim the rewards at the end. This is a great feel.

However with a nice high profile job, you get less stressed and have more general security, especially if you work for a big company.

Business is good because there are no limits of income…but it also comes with lot of risk

Thank you all for your responses.

I am modifying my query a little bit: What if one starts a side business along with his regular job ?

Lets continue this discussion and share our thoughts…

anujgarg,

People will not notice that the query has been modified a little bit. It would be better to start a new thread with a new title.

I prefer business over job.
As Business gives you freedom to express yourself and to work the way you want to work.

I always prefer a business over a job, for two reasons. First, I am paid, in proportion to my efforts. Second, and more important, if something goes wrong, I have no one to blame but myself.

Business is very risk, so i prefer job.

i think first we have to take start with job for getting experience and than if we feel to strat the business we can. but as compare to business job have less risk.

I used to assume that a job was more secure / safer. But after getting laid off in 2003 (and spending a LONG time unemployed) and quitting a job a few months ago because the work environment had become too stressful and (for me) ineffectual, I’m not so sure.

Freelancing, I can control my work environment and my schedule. I can control the number of projects I take on at once (and don’t have to take on must-be-done-tomorrow mini-projects when I’m in the middle of two or three date-driven large projects. At least not every week). I’m not dependent on any one customer/employer for all my income in perpetuity. I can make my own mistakes and learn from them, rather than making upper management’s mistakes and thinking “yup, thought so” when things go wrong.

I don’t want to have employees, because that traps you in a similar way that being employed does. If I reach the point where I need extra help, I’ll probably subcontract instead.

This is all theoretical, since I’m just starting out with freelancing. But I’m feeling hopeful.

My dream is to have my own personal business. If I am to choose, I’d rather have that. The problem is that economy these days is quite critical, and you know doing business is always a risk. Even if I have enough money to build one, I’d still prefer a job. Being an owner is sure way more stressful than an employee. That is my thought for now.

I’ve ran my small business for the past 4 years and it’s been a sweet ride. Yes, it’s not easy, but the rewards far exceed anything I could have earned as an employed web designer. If you can manage your own ‘show’, you can have excellent results, otherwise a good job will do the trick.

I prefer job because there is time limit

High Profile Job is always more secure and generally easier. However a Well Established Business might be more work, but it comes with more flexibility and probably more profit.

Personally I like having a job and running a business on the side. Best of both worlds!

Business is better than job.I am operating in a worldwide organization but pleased by my job and now i am considering to do something by myself.!!

My preference is Good Job with Well Established Part Time Business… Double Income…

I too prefer business over job… I know it is not as easy as it sounds but a hard work and sincere effort could definitely bring up your business.

I prefer a High Profile Job.

Well you have already worked for 10 years and were not satisfied so doing a job for you will not be a good idea so in my opinion you should concentrate on your business because that will give you freedom to do whatever you want

In my opinion, business is much better option than job. In job you work for someone else and you get just one third of your work whereas when you are doing business at same time you get full profit of your work. You are responsible for your decisions and profit and losses. Like in my case I choose franchise business as my career and through that I get full benefit of my work. <snip /> gives me a set way to move and helps me with full support. Through this I get established brand name and operational strategies.

If i have an i will surely start my own firm instead of working with other firms as a developer or a project leader…
