Mulitple URL names to a single site

Hello,

Is it possible to have two URL names to a single website without search engines or CEO penalizing you because of it? I have purchased a .guru URL and which to include that on the main website that’s a .org

Morrile

In terms of SEO, the main thing you need to do is to make sure that it’s a “visible redirect” – in other words, that when you go do website.guru, the address bar in your browser then switches to website.org. If you’re seeing that then search engines are too, and they will then know that it is one page with two different entry point. If it’s an “invisible redirect”, so that your address bar still shows website.guru even though you’re looking at pages on website.org then search engines won’t be able to tell that it’s the same page, and that’s when you’re in danger of suffering from duplicate content problems.

“visible redirect” sounds great idea, yet how? Is this just a matter of setting an entry within DNS to point to the same IP?

If you’re using a rewrite rule in .htaccess there’s a flag you can put on it, can’t remember what it is and not able to look it up right now, might be [R], but maybe someone who knows about these things could give you a better answer, @dklynn;?

Thanks
