MS Office issue

Hello, have a friend that has an issue with MS Office. The computer wouldn’t open any of the office applications (either directly from the executable or the document). It said there was a problem with the internet connection, and he tried to re-enter his product key, but said it is eligible (it is a legit copy incase anyone growls).

Thought it was strange that the likes of Word wouldn’t open because of connectivity issues… so I suggested to do a Repair of MS Office from the Control Panel. This doesn’t seem to have repaired it, but instead removed it!

Now when trying to access Office it brings up an error message saying:

  • “Click-2-Run configuration failure”

I know the version that was installed was called:

  • Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010

Also, MS Office 2007 is installed on the system too. I’m assuming this is a pre-install when the laptop was bought.

Thanks for any advice on how to get 2010 back to normal again.

Repairing Office Click-to-Run products require an Internet connection to be available during the entire repair process.

(This version of Office is installed on a virtual machine on the “Q” drive - this will become important for next solution if repair does not work)

Feeling honoured your first post was used on me

But yeah, he did have the internet connection active while running the repair. Didn’t think that would have caused adverse affects (as shown by the error message I pasted in the original post). How do I get it all back again…

I don’t think I am getting credit for posting here.

Uninstall, then reinstall with MSI version using same license:

1.Save all work, and then close all programs.
2.In Control Panel, open Programs and Features to see a list of installed programs.
3.Click Microsoft Office Click-To-Run 2010, and then click Uninstall.
4.To remove Microsoft Office Click-to-Run, click Yes.
5.Go to the Microsoft Office alternative fulfillment page.
6.Click My account.
7.Click Download, and then click Advanced options.
8.Follow the instructions.
9.To install the MSI-based Microsoft Office edition, run SingleImage.exe.
10.When prompted, type your Product Key to continue.

[FONT=verdana]Random,

Just to be clear: You said that the message said that there was a connectivity problem, even though your friend did have a valid internet connection?

If that’s right, he should check his firewall settings. It could be that the firewall is blocking the attempt to connect to the Microsoft server.

If I’ve misunderstood the issue, my apologies.
