MICROSOFT SQL STANDARD 2008 server: sql writer is causing my backup's to fail

We recently installed a new virtual server to run our sql standard 2008 sp2 server. So naturally what any it guy do is to take a backup of the virtual server. First night we tried to take a backup of our virtual hard disk the backup failed. So naturally we thought that it was Symantec’s fault. We have a Symantec hyper-v license purchased. So we contacted Symantec support and it came up that SqlServerWriter was the cause the backup failed. So we tried to take a full backup of virtual server white Windows server backup. And again the SqlServerWriter was the cause the backup failed. So the very big question is that what setting do I have to put on my server that I am cable of doing nightly backup of my virtual server what is running sql standard server 2008, white out shutting the virtual server down.

Under here is some specs of our work environment:

Operating System= Windows Server 2008 R2

Virtual Server Software = Hyper-V Version: 6.1.7600.16385

Program = SQL 2008 sp2 Standard

Backup Software = Symantec Exec 2010

And this is the errors what we are getting in the events viewer:

Solution what we have tried is:

Registering

Run FIXVSS.BAT to reset VSS configuration.

Sow my big question is how do i get my backup’s again to work?

Sorry if i posted this on the wrong section on the forum. and if anybody needs more information i haven’t provided i am happy to give more.

Where are you writing the backup to? Sql server errors tend to suck on this level and give you lots more information than you need, but the key bit is:

SQLVDI: Loc=SVDS::Open. Desc=Open(Control). ErrorCode=(2)The system cannot find the file specified.
. Process=1548. Thread=9392. Server. Instance=MYSQLSERVERSQL. VD=Global\\{05F79733-9897-4BCB-BD4A-DF7D24BF6901}449_SQLVDIMemoryName_0.

event id: 8229

3.

Cannot open backup device '{3A3B9929-3BCF-4860-9331-45D490F4DE4A}504'. Operating system error 0x80070002(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105).

Meaning SQL can’t find or access the backup device. Remember that the sql backup runs in the context of the database server (default is NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE) not whatever your management account is, so if it is going to a network drive, that is a pretty easy explanation.

i am trying to backup to a tape drive. And if you are curious of the settings for vss services it’s manual and the rest of the settings are default.

Ok, it seems sql can’t open the tape drive.

Typically we backup to disk then push that to tape for a few reasons. First and foremost, it is alot quicker so you don’t have a long-running backup stressing the database server. Second, lot less variables involved. Perhaps you might want to remove the complexity (tapes, etc) and dump directly to disk first?

on the moment we are backup of the live databases white scheduled sql to a folder and after that symantec is taking a backup of them to the tape. but this is still not our problem our problem is that. When we are taking backup of our vhd the sql server crashes.
