Is SMO (Social media optimization) the best Seo strategy for you?

Social media optimization or SMO is yet another method for search engine optimization of your site. As the name implies, you optimize your site by advertising it through the social media sites, online communities and community websites such as blog sites, message boards, podcasts, wikis and vlogs.
The methods for social media optimization involve the use of RSS feeds, social bookmarking, video and photo sharing, social news buttons and blogging etc.

You can start anytime you want … i will add some links in 1-2 days  .

Social media optimization (SMO) is a set of methods for generating publicity through social media, online communities and community websites, include adding RSS feeds, adding a “Digg This” button, blogging and incorporating third party community functionalities.
SMO is a specific method to optimize your website, which can be considered as one of the methods of SEM.

Something that everyone can do is usually not the best SEO method. In my arsenal social media has never made the top three SEO strategies. Well I guess it all depends from site to site since every web site has its own personality.

There is nothing as best SEO strategy. Always use white hat SEO methods and keep on reading authoritative SEO blogs for updates

I havent done enough focus on social media for boosting rank and will do soon. i guess the important thing is building a grounding friends who will happily respond to your diggs etc straight away

I have sound knowledge about SEO on as well as off but SMO i have no idea tell much more about that.

I agree completely. Some of my website projects rely heavily on social media and others have absolutely no use for it. It really all depends what the goals of the website are.

The best way is doing all the strategies and researching for what is new.

for me SMO is not really the best strategy, it will help though if you have a very good SMO strategy or tactics

I’ve never actually used SMO. I have heard many positive things about it.

Has anyone found it more effective than other methods?

Any more time consumming?

I think it’s highly disturbing that people within this thread are pro-actively promoting the use of social networks beyond their terms of usage purely on the basis of self-promotion. Most social networks expressly prohibit using the tools to spam or self-promote projects (beyond a minimal amount) - StumbleUpon and Digg for example, the fact that people are now considering it for boosting the number of backlinks to their website just goes to show how most SEO practitioners are willing to degrade the Internet and violate usage agreements (even laws) just to get those precious extra few hits. You people should be ashamed of yourselves (IMO)

SMO is not a good source of getting traffic to website that’s why i have never used it as off page optimization. But as you are saying that it brings quality traffic to the website so i am wondering to try it.

Thanks for sharing

Social media is a great place to originate targeted traffic for your website! That was the entire point of it. The problem is when people manipulate these social media networks in an attempt to gain undue traffic or backlinks.

That’s because you’re young. If you were 20 years older you’d be wondering why it took people so long to spot this remarkable marketing opportunity…:stuck_out_tongue:

Personally I’d like to see the back of a lot of advertising, especially in online games and during kids television programmes and now I understand Google are planning to add Billboards advertising products to their ‘Streetview’ service. Shame on them.

Does that mean that morels decline with age? or we begin to get desperate enough (through experience) to keep the younger generation with hope of having the best of all worlds from taking the spotlight? I am pretty cynical for a young person but I know why people spam the web, and it’s not through intelligence :stuck_out_tongue:

No, it means that with age comes greater experience of how the world works. Sounds patronising as hell but it’s true, 20 years from now you’ll know what I mean. I thought I was cynical when I was in my twenties but I had no idea what I should even be cynical about or just how cynical I could be compared to now.

If anything, my morals have improved with age simply because I’m better informed and have lived long enough to see the patterns cycle at least once.
