When ever I add this code in it messes up the bottom half of the page. On my page the background is white with grey on the sides of the page. but after I enter this part of the code it makes everything below have a blue background. Its as if its overriding the code or something. This is a site that some one else has made and I’m trying to manage it but I cant figure out what they did to make it do this. Sorry if this is a really long post I’m new to this site and wasn’t sure if this was the correct way to do this.

What happens if you remove the last </div> on the first piece of code?

As Rubble said above you have one extra closing div in that first section which would cause any parent container (if there was one) to finish early and possibly orphan the rest of the page.

You should always run your html and css through the validator to pick out any obvious errors like missing tags or typos.

If that doesn’t solve the issue we will need to see a working example of sorts.

If you could provide the CSS I could test it in my machine and tell you the problem. But the code looks fine.
