What is the best way to move emails from one account to another.
I want to change web host so I want to move emails and not to lose them.
Normally emails in a hosting account are stored as text files. Depending on your hosting set up you may be able to access the storage folder, download the files, then upload to your new host.
I would recommend you ask your new host first, they may be able to transfer them for you.
If both mail servers are IMAP you can use a client program like thunderbird, set up both server accounts in tbird, then just drag & drop messages between them.
Also most mail clients support some form of export to text, .eml, or other formats that are easy to import in the new server.
If all you use is a web-based mail client I don’t know other than see what kind of export may be available with it.
Before everybody starts flinging ideas left and right, there are a few essential questions that would need to be addresses to find the most effective way to transfer the email effectively:
- Where/how is the email currently stored?
- How is the email from the account being retrieved (webmail, mail client, mail app, etc)
- Where is it going to be migrated to? (webmail, mail client, etc)
