How to start Bulk SMS Business?

I want to start my own Bulk SMS Business. I search on Google but I find only re-sellers. I don’t want to re-sell.

Can anybody please tell me…

  • The process to start?
  • Legal process of registration etc?
  • And what should be my budget?

I want to start this business as soon as possible. Also I am ready to pay if any consultant is over here.

Thanks for your forthcoming response.

You’re asking us to write a business plan for you. That’s way beyond the scope of this forum.

Also, you are missing the most important step. Before you even begin to think about legal processes or registrations, you need to do your market research. This is an absolute necessity. You need to know how big the market is for bulk SMS services in your part of the world, and what percentage of that market you might hope to attract. You need to see who your competitors are, and you need a strategy for taking business away from them.

I can’t stress this highly enough. If you fail to do proper market research, your business will fail.

Final point: You ask what your budget should be. How we can possibly answer that without knowing how big your market will be, and what your costs will be in capturing a share of it?

To summarise: Go away and do some serious research. Built up a business plan. Then, and only then, come back and ask about the mechanics.

@Mikl ; thanks to reply…
Actually I have done enough research from on it… Competition etc is not an issue to me because I already have some clients… At present I have purchase sms for them from another service provider… So I planned to start my own Bulk SMS Service to save money…

Also I am software engineer so I’ll not have to pay to technical person… That’s why I want to know only the process… And budget so that I can communicate my clients accordingly… I don’e know what amount I’ll have to invest but I know it will be less than my spends…

Also sorry if I asked wrong question here… And thanks again for taking your time…

Well you need to observe any legal requirements in your country that apply to telecommunications.

You’ll most likely need need a web server or two to process sending/receiving SMS data, plus the software needed to run it all.

As for budget you will need to assess how long it will take to write, test and implement all the software you need, plus factor in the cost of running web servers, and other business costs. That’s where writing a good business plan helps because you can details how much time and cost each bit may take.

Aksaini, it’s good to hear that you have done some market research. But your reply raises some further points.

You might well have some clients, but competition is most definitely an issue. Just think of your competitors as the people who want to take your clients away from you.

I am software engineer so I’ll not have to pay to technical person.

That’s good. You’ll be saving some money. But that doesn’t mean you will be able to create a product that the market wants, which is the crucial point.

I don’e know what amount I’ll have to invest

Well, you know more than we do. It’s up to you to do the arithmetic. You’re in a better position than we are to calculate the costs. If you’re expecting someone to reply to your post by saying that you need to invest so-many thousand rupee … well, I can only say that you should certainly not rely on any such figure.

I’m sorry if I sound negative. Whatever you decide, good luck with your venture.

@bluedreamer ; thanks to take your time… I think I will have to develop a SMS Gateway… do you know where I can get the API (Open Source API)…
@Mikl ; thanks again…
It is okay… everything you are saying sounds good and is practical too… actually I was expecting a rough estimation of amount from the person in same boat…

Yes I am doing further analysis…

Please note, I never mind… I love to hear people and love to think about every point…
