Hello, I currently have a the home button link active
when a user is in the home page. Is it necessary to
have it active so the user knows they are in the home
page or is their another method I can approach? Of
course the page itself is self-explanatory as home page.

Well, it’s a pretty standard thing to do, and I personally like it, but there’s never universal agreement on anything.

Well I have seen many websites that dont have it active
thats why. Maybe the question is why not have it active.
Hm, I have to admit that this never really occurred to me…
