When my mother drove a car, she was extremely frustrated by not knowing what the goofy idiot-light icons meant.
“What’s it mean when the little flag in the water is glowing?”
Why couldn’t it also have a little bit of text next to it that said ENGINE TEMP ?
Similarly, the icons need title text. If I keep images turned off it’s not a problem because of the alt text, but orange flags may well mean nothing… I assumed there would be title text with the icon change.
And, agreed with c2uk about the scary text after you hit report. I thought this was going to change?
There are a lot of things I think you can get away with having just an icon for - I’ve never felt that ‘report post’ should even be one of them.
I’d get the text on that sucker… and really to me, the flag is vague and meaningless… Maybe something like a scales (as in justice) or something… but that’s the problem with icons in the first damned place.
Of course, I’d also take a giant honking axe to all the stupid images for control buttons like “post reply” and “quote” as a waste of bandwidth, piss poor accessibility and looking like ass when the user has to zoom… Which with the goofy extra styling I generally end up having to do anyways to make the ones with text legible.
But that’s me. I’m the guy *****ing about the main menu and the majority of display elements still being px metric fonts making them illegibly small - but at least unlike the default vbull 4 template, you guys have the CONTENT dynamic. They’ve got giant brass monkey balls charging money for that new version.
Great! I’ve often wanted to alert you to a post being in the wrong forum.
Agree with others that the text below the box should be changed to reflect what you’ve said in the opening post.
BUT, the title text on the flag itself need to reflect this also. No one is ever going to interpret “Report Post” as an invitation to suggest a different forum etc. I would suggest something more descriptive. I acknowledge that a longer sentence wouldn’t look so hot if someone has images off, but it might be worth it for clarity, all the same.
Here’s a suggestion for title text I’ve just thought up:
“Spam? Offensive? Wrong forum? Great post? Let us know!”
(The great post bit could go. I just added it to make the message a little less threatening.)
